had my ortofon concorde dj blue's for over a year, and i never replaced the needles because i never found a reason to. now i hear that if ive had em for a year i should definetely get new ones but i just tried a new needle (came with the cartridge) and recorded part of a song with it, and did same with old needle yet it sounds the same

so im curious how long do needles usually last if mine has been goin for more then a year?
and bigger question: how do you tell its time to switch?

oh and do cartridges ever need replacing?

As long as they're not physically broken, you should never need to replace your cartridges.

The stylii (needles) depend on the brand. If you use them everyday for an hour or more, I think they say to replace Ortofons every 6 months. But if the sound quality hasn't degraded, I'm not sure that it really matters that much.

I'd leave the needle on there until it starts to degrade. At that point I'd replace it.
