Where in Asia are the parties?

I'm hoping to travel out to Asia over Christmas and the New year - ending up in Sydney during January.

Would love to spend some time at some parties. I hear that both Goa and Thailand have lost the edge. Where's the place to head for?

Any ideas gratefully received.

Sure, we live kinda near them, but i think we pissed a lot of them off haha, yer thanks Howard.

Anyway, theres au.tas travelling to Asia, so they might be able to answer.

But most of us don't know, don't really care :)

yer I've heard bits and pieces about the moonlight raves in Thailand, but I dunno how you'd go about finding out more info... sorry :(

not a music specific website, but i'd suggest posting the question on the thorn tree over at lonely planet.com There's be plenty of backpacker-types over there who will know details of these sort of things

Full Moon party in Koh Samui on the 6th December - dont quote me on that exact date but im pretty sure its around then. I'll be doing the Thai islands and theres a party every night so if you are around Thailand, the southern beaches are the places to be !

Okay, well, I've been to both Goa in India and a full moon party in Thailand. While the parties in Goa mightn't be what they once were cos of commercialisation/the growth in the popularity of Goa as a destination, noise restrictions and the fact that they are very much illegal, they definitely still exist. They're especially huge over the New Year Period and will probably go non-stop for days in the areas around Anjuna and Vagator....Disco Valley, Bamboo Forest, 9 Bar, and Hill Top.

In Thailand the full moon parties take place on Koh Phangan (island near Koh Samui) and are definitely still very much happening. Bars/beach shacks and stages on the beach, lots of people and lots of music. Big Christmas and New Year's Eve beach parties are held there each year too.

I haven't been to any other party places in Asia, sorry, so that's about as much help as I can give you. :)

A big from me I'm afraid .. though like someone else suggested, Lonely Planet is probably a pretty good start :)

Anyway, yeah, as someone else said, I think that "Zouk" in Singapore is probably the most famous club in Asia. The authorities there are pretty strict, though, so don't do anything stupid like get too drunk or buy/sell any drugs or you'll probably be getting whipped with a bamboo cane within 40 days.

Japan has a semi-decent club scene as well, from what I hear, but I wouldn't have a clue where to start looking.
