That's cool JdDark, I think I understand where you are coming from. Andi got it on the ball: Karate, TaeKwonDo, and even forms of judo are sprots. In sports they teach you routines that you master. not alot of enlightenment. :)

If you are still looking for a Martial Art form, try checking out Hepkido(sp?). Which is a oxymoronic mix of Controlled Aikido and aggressive TaeKwonDo. I wanted to learn it when I was little, but my dad said it was not for me. Anyways, I actually am looking into taking Hepkido(sp?) as another Art.

Just rememeber to meet the Sensei and find out about him/her. That will tell you what kind of Dojo it is.

i thought that was more like a dance or something
JdDark
capoeira is a dance/martial art, from brazil
it came to light a long time ago, when the slaves weren't permitted to use weapons of any kind, so they developped a dance which was also a martial art
now you have two forms, one in the big cities, this one is the hard one, full contact, with very fast music
the other one is the traditional one, with gatherings of different clubs, with very relaxing and appropriate music

and believe me, it's very hard to learn, i tried it a couple of times, and you got to have strength for it

cool video, but it confirmed my opinion that it's more like a dance then a martial art.

when i was younger i used to play street fighter 2 quite a bit...!
only kiddin, i'd love to learn a martial art, like youve been saying not to make me into some hard guy but to enhance body and mind. thing is, whenever i try something out i just get bored after a few months, so i don't know if i'd be wasting my money on lessons etc.? is it something that requires a lot of dedication, i've got the picture it might be and its a really bad thing but i'm soooo lazy

i think most martial arts is pretty much a self asteem builder..... when it comes to actual fighting it sucks!!! Karate,Taekwondoe,kungfu...good to fight people that dont know how to fight but fighting other masters is a different story ... the best fighters in the world are Submission fighters and Grabblers....... Punches and kicks are useless Elbows and Heels and Knees are more effective in fights...cuz there the hardest part of your body...and most fights go on the growd when they last...and submission holders can put a quick submission hold on you and nothing u can do can make u get out of it...and its over!!!.......
Brazilian Ju jitzu , Grabbaling, Submission fighting and i would say Akido is very good too but is maily above ground fighting but its about submission techniques...

i seen a fight with a Brazialian jujizu Submission fighter vs a 10 degree world champion Kung Fu master ...and the Submission fighter took the kung fu champion down in less then a min !! made Kung Fu look so ty!!!!
i took Submission Fighting hoyce gracy style for 5 years now...and i am a Black belt in Shotokan Karate.... and submission fighting is way better and i learn more about defence then before.....

ok...I don't like the way you talk about kung fu...you say kung fu sucks. there are thousands of different kung fu styles so you can't say 'kung fu' is crap; the '10th degree world champion Kung Fu master', what style does he fight? there are no official kung fu championships and the 10th degree is given to assorted kung fu fighters for special achievements. there are a lot of wannabe kung fu masters who invented their own style and call themselves 10th degree master/sifu/si-gung...so don't say it sucks if you don't know anything about it!!!

and I don't like the gracie brothers cause of their we're-the-best-and-you-suck attitude, they are arrogant imo...one of the gracie brothers refused to fight against dai-sifu emin boztepe (7th degree leung ting wing tsun kung fu)

i didnt say Kung fu is crap ...but they cant match submission fighters...when u watch stuff like UFC or K1 where they fight and there is no limitaions on what style u fight .... and Kung Fu, Karate,Taekwondo,etc.....those arts always got there Ass whooped ...even Bruce lee back in the day said Kung Fu is missing a lot of stuff to be really good.... and most of it was Ground fighting ,submisssion and grabbaling...... when u relize most fights end up on the ground and he relized that and learned it......

and about the kung fu guy i dont know what style he was but he was one of the most anticipated fighters and one of the best Kung Fu fighters in the world... and he got his ass whooped ...so who knows!
