Well, it certainly sounds very professional.
Can I ask what equipment you're using?
I wouldn't be able to tell that it was recorded by an amateur, so the quality is pretty good.

Now, about the melody... my advice is to make it a little more memorable, because as it is right now it just doesn't go anywhere... you know? Make the chord progression a little more captivating and memorable. Maybe that means making it more predictable -- but in this case I think it would only help, strangely enough.

Well, that's my opinion.
dj dave b
yes i definetly understand what your talking about there

i used fruityloops.. i found with some tweaking you can make it sound quite good (tweaking as in filters, quality samples etc)

I have been working on another tune, im still working on the main synth sound so for the moment it still sounds a bit edgy
again this is not the full song for obvious reasons.
check it out http://smellybin.com/smp/daveb-demo2.mp3

p.s ty for the reply! :D

Yeah, I know what you mean.

I used to play with FruityLoops myself but then I gave up. For some reason I was overwhelmed by the number of options and filters available, and I couldn't use them the right way to make a good song. Plus the sound was very amateurish -- especially the snare, I couldn't find a professional-sounding snare instrument!

Well, I'll listen to your second demo and get back to you with comments tomorrow.
dj dave b
yes the snare fully sucks doesnt it.. lol
90% of the samples that come with it suck.

Okay Great, and what a prompt reply!
DjMT
D,

Sound and sample quality are good!

bass and percussion are good as well.

like the intro...maybe just a bit longer (the DJ in me!)...not sure I could listen to this track for an extended period of time, as far as the "flow" of things...starts to sound a bit repetitive...maybe something more in the way of transitions and some variety in the synth...I'm not a big music critic, just trying to tell you what I think...hope it helps!
dj dave b
Critisism is a good thing!

I made that a while ago and I liked the sound of the cut so I thought i'd post it here. I think my layout has improved somewhat since then, ty for your thoughts :).

Take a listen to my newest sample if you can (im still working on the main synth's sound)

tell me what you think :)

sample 1: sounds cool, but like Djmt said: use a larger intro, and maybe try to stay a bit in the same pattern. It's good trying to be original, but don't exagerate. It starts rather dark, but suddenly you change to a more happy tune, which doesn't go well with the first part. Maybe try to continue working in the same tune.

sample 2: nothing wrong to say about, soudns very good, really. If you continue it like it starts, it will be a great demo.

hey a fruitylooper.... im d/l the sample now.. so ill be getting back to ya soon....:)
dj_alfi
good track... do u wanna do a project? send me the flp file (use the pm button) or mail me it @: [email protected]... i have been producing songs for the last 5 years now (im 16) so i kinda know what im doing, and this song could turn out real great...:D

dj dave b
cool. that would be great :D
at the moment im lacking mostly in the main synth sound (in terms of quality), I just can't get it sounding good enough with fruityloops.

Give me a bit to get the tune sorted out and i'll send it too you

:D
