Holland, Netherlands and Deutchland, I am confused

I am confused, someone please elaborate:)
And this language, sounds like a mix between German, French and a hint of English. What's that? (yes, I finished high-school :) but still I didn't catch this) |

Holland, The Netherlands have a language called Dutch
Germany, Deutschland have a language called German |

holland = the netherlands = weed, heinekens, ID&T radio(among other things)
deutchland = germany = home of the oktoberfest(munich) and the love parade (berlin) (among other things) |

When people here (USA) ask me where I am from...
obviously, I say Denmark.
I think Denmark doesn't exist in the American geog courses. You would not believe how many times I hear remarks like this:
"hey, I heard you're from Holland."
"hey, I heard you're Dutch."
"Ask the Dutch girl."

Holland - old provincial region of what is today's Netherlands and the name became stuck with it in the English language.
Netherlands - the official name of the nation.
Deutschland - German name for Germany.
Dutch or Netherlandic as a language is a confligration of German and English, maybe some Frisian with very different pronounciations from English and also very gluttoral in speech. A dutch G sounds nothing like G in English.
Hope this helps you man, I know all this as I speak English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Dutch. So this debunks the Euro myth that all Americans can't speak other languages. |
