Picking new Turntables

yeah, I'll probably get new turntables around Christmas, so I was wondering what you guys thought were the best?
Right now I've got some Stantons but I was thinking of moving up to the str8-100's. Anybody have those? Or what about the Numark TTX's? My brother who's a DJ has those and likes them, any suggestions? |

Numark TTX1
those are the best all around choices out there in my opinion. |

Hmm, I say, grab the ST100's. They're torque is 0.600 Kgf/cm higher. (2.2 on the ST100 and 1.6 on the technics). The flutter of a technics is much more precise, (0.01% for the technics, and 0.15% on the ST100). The rumble of the technics is -78Db while the ST100 has -50Db (withch is less :) ).
If you are going to use the turntable for proffesional usage, You should get the SL1200. If you're just a bedroom DJ, get the ST100's, you won't regret it. I have them, and I'm pretty happy with them. I've played on SL1200's yesterday, and I must say, they're not much better than my ST100's at home. The ST100's have a key correction and that's pretty nice (if you use the LINE output of the turntable that is, otherwise it doesn't work).
(* the ST100 is for mixing, the STR8-100 is for schratching)
About the TTX... I've heard alot of negative things about it, I heard the tonearms really suck (and they could be right, 'cuz numark doesn't have a good reputation on tonearms). But it could be a good choice is you scratch AND mix since they have a straight or a S shaped tonearm. |

Just to make sure you understand, -78 dB of rumble is better than -50 dB. Those numbers mean that the signal from a Technics is 100 000 000 times stronger than the noise due to rumble, whereas the signal from a Stanton is 100 000 times stronger than the noise due to rumble. You always want your signal to overpower any noise factors (such as rumble). |

yeah, I meant that :)
but the difference is only noticable when you connect the turntables on a 1000W amp and let it blow at full capacity. I mean, if you're using your turntable in a room, even in a garden, you won't EVER play that laud. It's like buying a 10 channel mixer for 2 turntables. It's too good. |

| hey thatnks for the advice everyone. I'll probably go with the ST100's since I found them for relativly cheap online. |

get technics.
cos you know for a fact that if you ever get a club gig then thats what they will be using.
all this +/-50 pitch is a gimic that stupid consumers fall for.
technics are the all time best decks around. nothing comes close. |

| True, but I use Technics at my radio station and I have to say I actually like my Statntons that I have now better. Also, a good set of Technics is $450 a piece while I can get the Stantons for $300 a piece. I mean, is there that big of a difference? |

:p
It's not the +/- 25% that I'm prefering the stantons for, but let me get the same example I used before. Why get a 20 Channel mixer if you're only using 2 turntables? It's a waiste of money that you better spend on vinyl in stead of 0.01% flutter that you probably don't even notice.
