UK House of Commons officially decriminalizes marijuana
View this Thread in Original format

yesterday October 29 the House of Commons, the equivalent of USA's House of Representatives, officially voted 316 - 160 to reclassify possession of cannabis from a Class B to a Class C violation which means no arrest or jailtime.

this goes to prove how much more progressive the UK federal goverment of the is compared to our conservative legislators. I don't see the US House of Representatives or Senate doing this for LONG time.

some links for more info.

Ummm sorry but that's mostly under state jurisdication not federal. And 10 states have already decriminalized it long ago: Alaska, California, Colorado, Nebraska, New York, North Carolina, Maine, Minnesota, Ohio, and Oregon.

Yes, true...I can see how he would make that mistake though since it's not a federal thing here. All states need to decriminalize it though...it's bull IMO to have some dude who just smokes weed have to go to jail.

And it's decriminalization has been repealed in Canada :)

So the only place where it has been decriminalized (besides the obvious) are parts of the US! :haha:

Theres not much change apart from the letter b now being c. The max penalty for passing a joint has gone up to 14 years. The penalty for possession has gone down from 5 to 2 years.
They can still arrest in some circumstances, but mostly ull get a warning and ur confiscated.

Huh?

It was never decriminilized in the first place. :p

Medical marijuana has already been legal for a while. The government grows it and doctors distribute it.

As for non-medical use, there have been rulings in provincial courts but these have no bearing on federal legislation. It is a sign of the times however and to me it seems that a law is essentially void when the courts will refuse to even enforce it. :stongue:

On the federal level our Justice Minister, Martin Cauchon, has said that he is in favour of decriminilization. The Senate has also recommended decriminilization. This process will be postponed for a while (probably) as our governing party is about to change leaders (finally) over the next few months, but it is going to happen. :)
