| quote: | | Yeah they do.In fact, there's an article in this month's Club Systems magazine where DJs are talking about how they quite often will be playin CDs but have a couple of vinyls on the turntables just so it looks like they're doing something. It's not that they're "cheating"...it's just that when people don't see vinyl on the tables they think the DJs are slackin'. |
Yeah I know what you mean, kind of along the lines of using the 3rd TT to mix on occasion even if you are only actually mixing 2 records at a time. Though it can keep people guessing... |

| Agree 1000 and 10% with pasteymofo...Use whatever tools are available. Don't just stick to vinyl because it makes you look cool. I have seen George Acosta (Maimi's Shadow Lounge) use CD's; in fact I have seen DJ's use nothing but CD's and sound better than DJ's who use nothing but Vinyl. |

| Mauro Picotto used cds in his mix about 50% of the time when I saw him at Giant a couple of weekends ago in LA. I was surprised he actually used that much. |

If I were a DJ I'd mix my music using an MP3 mixer and then burn CD's...lot's of DJ's do it here and in Florida. You could carry 12 hours worth of music under your arm instead of 12 milk crates. |

I know for a fact that Nick Warren uses CD's in his sets because I saw him on Thursday July 12th at Icon in Orlando, FL, and it skipped twice during the night!

I agree, but vinyl and CD's skip in entirely different ways.. With vinyl you can just get a slight hop that messes up the beat, but cd's just repeat the same section over and over and over again until you do something about it.
Talk about a buzz kill!

| I'd have to agree with using whatever tools are available. Using only vinyl would be too limiting because not everything is pressed onto vinyl anymore...sad but true. |

I agree! I have several songs which are just simply amazing, but I can't find them anywhere on vinyl, nor can I find any trace that they've ever been printed on vinyl.

I have found some amazing tunes on CD's and MP3's that I wouldn't even begin to know how to find on Vinyl...I have heard in the past (before CD's were invented) that record companies only give the newest, hottest releases to the top DJ's. So only they were playing the top tunes until they became old news. CD's and MP3's have leveled the playing field.:D |

I also believe it has to do with the CD player. I have one in my car that skips - even on a new CD fresh out of the package. I play this same CD on another player, and it plays w/o any problems. A CD playing DJ might want to bring his own CD player with him; you have know idea what kind of shape the CD player is in where you will be spinning. |
