Tourista review of Sound Factory (11/1)

I went to "Sound Factory" last night (Nov 1) in NYC.

The venue was great, with the various floors, sounds and options for shakin' one's bootty. (Keep in mind the last time I ~really~ partied in NYC was when Sasha/Digweed had resident status @ Twilo)

The music was particularly good @ 5:10 am on the top floor. I was dancing like a MACHINE! Who played the top floor last night? Man I want a set list.

The only deal was that Sound Factory has a really stuck up vibe. I didn't expect this as compared to most NYC Saturday night joints I saw it was a little ghetto.

The contrast between Toronto and NYC: In Toronto - people come up to you and say "hey, how's it going". At Sound Factory - you're lucky if people say excuse me to get in line for a drink - however at least there aren't meat heads/barbi dolls all over the place.

Dress code was bang on - I was able to wear my dancing clothes (levis, golf shirt and airwalks) which made my night even better.

Overall SF was a good night (good toons, cool atmosphere).

Now if I can just find a venue for similar "entertainment" availability/options for tonight... (any ideas?)

For Sunday...

If you get this in time, Junior Vasquez is playing at Discotheque right now (started at 6 am), til 6 pm

If you don't mind a mostly gay crowd, you can also try Avalon and Cheetah

Also, check these listings:

Question - what is the dress code @ Discotheque like? Is it as liberal as Sound Factory??

(someone correct me if I'm wrong)
Generally most places in NYC don't have a dress code, but it's a good idea not to look like a slob
Basically "casual but neat" will work in most places
For the ladies, "less is more" is the rule :p

Funny, I've heard of Sound Factory sometimes having a dress code on Saturdays, including "no sneakers". I think it depends on what the door person feels like doing.

Though I've only been to Discotheque on Thursdays, I haven't had a problem there.

I was at SF ONCE! ( for pvd march over a year ago ).

I have said this time and time again, the place was packed then as most of you know, but I really think it's one of the nicest places in the city. Left quite an impression on me!
Sound over there is fantastic as well.

But people are "so so" that is true, and I was never offered so many pills in a club before that. And I have yet to beat the record.

Clubs are just too complicated :p
