Equivalence Class

(For a definition of what is an Equivalence Class, look at http://mathworld.wolfram.com/EquivalenceClass.html)

Well, I would like to understand better all the sub-divisions of trance (and electronic music in general), so I am trying to get one class representative of every trance sub-genres.
For example, if Bossa Nova was the target, I could say "Garota the Ipanema" is one good representative for Bossa Nova, everyone who listen to "Garota de Ipanema" thinks: this is Bossa Nova.
So, which sub-genres we have in Trance (progressive, hard, melodic, vocal, etc.) and what would be a good representative for each one?

P.S. (Before you say "Trance is one good style and don't care what is the sub-genre, or anything like this and bla bla bla ....", thank you, I like music, but I like these nuances too : ))

who cares about subdivisions and labelwhoring, just listen to what you like because you like it, not because it falls under a certain label of music.

no one really knows, but some ppl think they do.

most ppl including me can only tell the difference between the main groups ie trance, house, progressive, hardstyle

At first I was trying to put labels on different tunes and DJs, but the more I listened, the more opinions started to change and the more diverse styles I was exposed to. Now there are just two genres I label stuff as: like/don't like.

Well, you didn't got my point. I am not expecting to modelate my taste for music by your answers. I use to buy->listen at random (well, being honest I download->listen->maybe buy *cough*). All I want is some samples of how most people divide trance for me to understand better what are you talking about when you often say "Nice the set of progressive trance performed by DJ X" or something.

Got it now or should I perform my socket puppets presentation for better understanding?

All I need is: 1) the major divisions and 2) One good representative song for each division.

Thank all people that had posted useful info.

lol ... the "class equivalence" stuff was an attempt to not say the word "label", to avoid people saying exactly what those guys said above, "Forget about the f**king labels" or something. ; )
