So, I'm already having a not so nice day, when I decide to go to Office Max around six thirty, forgetting it was Sunday, and they close at six (which sucked because I had three papers due tomorrow morning and no ink!) but it was all good. I headed back home.
I'm driving back home, and I think I was changing the radio station when I looked up and saw two cars heading towards each other. Normally, I don't give it a second thought, because so many times have I seen two cars come close, but never actually hit.
The cars hit each other at full force, a whopping two cars ahead of me. I saw it all in slow motion. The huge truck and the eclipse hit each other full force. I saw the eclipse go flying up this hill thing and land next to a tree (not sure if it hit it or not) and the truck ended up on the sidewalk kinda.
Smoke was everywhere. I immediately pulled off on the side of the road and threw my hazards on and jumped out of my car to see if I could help. I ran over to where the truck was first, because it was closest to my car, yelling and asking if anyone needed a phone or anything and waving my cell phone. A girl tells me the cops were already called.
I watch as a black man pulls a woman out of the truck, the passenger side, but I'm pretty sure she was driving, but the door was caved in. He carries her over to the side of the hill and lays her down on her back so she can breathe, telling everyone to move because the truck was leaking. It was only when he mentioned it that I noticed the air was filled with fumes.
The most terrifying thing about this woman, laying on her back, was the way she was screaming "oh my god" and clutching her stomach in a way that made me shudder. It is my belief that she was pregnant. Her stomach was sticking out in that round way that most girls do when they are pregnant, and she was skinny everywhere else.
When they had moved her farther, I started to head towards the other car. I guess it was the first time I really looked at the other car. It was shattered. I saw the broekn windshield from far away, and what looked like splattered blood. They still couldn't get the driver out, from what I saw. They were struggling. People were yelling and screaming, and I didn't know what to do.
I must have stood, dumbfounded, for a few minutes, trying to see if there was anything I could do to help. I asked again if anyone needed anything, a phone to use, or whatever. After everyone insisting that they have everything in control, I knew that there was no more I could do, so I left.
I haven't stopped thinking about this accident since it happened. I sincerely hope that that woman indeed was not pregnant, and that everyone is okay and not in the hospital.
I'm all shook up. I haven't seen anything that bad, that up close, in a while. :nervous: |

One was turning left into the development, I think, going wayyy too fast, because I saw the huge swerve, and it was going super fast
-------> way. The other car was either going ^^^ way, or <---- way, I couldn't tell. All I know is that when they hit, they were spinning round in circles and flying every which way. I think it was most likely -----> and ^^^^, the way they actually hit though.
Both seemed to be going way over the speed limit. |

Damn that sucks!:( If anyone is in the hospital hopefully they'll be ok...
As for trying to help that was good of you but if others had it under control like they said there wasn't much you could've done. Hopefully it all worked out in the end and everyone will recover. |

Damn that's a pretty ty accident. On my way back to the airport from my trip to Chicago I was on the L at about 4:30 in the morning when we are going along the freeway, and being as tired as I was, I was attempting to entertain myself by watching the passing traffic. While I am lazily gazing out of the window, I see a semi slide on the wet ground and hit the center divider of a bridge head-on and a person goes out the windshield. The truck is completely destroyed as it jackknifed and fell onto the side, blocking traffic completely. I believe a white car and a small blue truck slammed into the trailer after it fell onto the side and it caused massive traffic obstruction for many hours after that. I proceeded to get on the plane and when I got home I checked the Chicago news and found out the only people to die were the driver and passenger of the semi, but a guy sitting between them on a bucket that was ejected survived with a few broken bones and a concussion. I believe the man in the blue truck broke his leg and that is all I can remember. Pretty serious mess.
Also, while driving with my mother to the mall a couple of weeks back, we were cruising behind a red Ford that we saw cut off a silver Eclipse, which had to make a sudden lane change, and got severely rear ended by a black Civic. We immediatly pulled over to the emergency lane and got out a blanket and road flares while I sent 911 our GPS with my phone. I ran over to the Civic while my mom and another citizen ran over to the Eclipse to check out the woman inside. I got to the Civic to notice it was smoking very badly while the engine was pushed back into the front end of the car. Luckily, the airbag deployed and saved the guy from smashing his face on the wheel. He had cuts over his face but didn't seem to be in very bad condition. I helped him out and he walked over to the side while I set out the road flares and directed traffic away from the vehicles. I know I shouldn't have moved him from the vehicle but I did anyways since it was smoking. I waited until the police and emergency vehicles got there and then told them what happened before I left.
Moral of the stories: Try to help if you can, cause accidents suck.

| Once i was driving home with my dad after a day of working at his lab and we were waiting at an intersection at the bottom of a hill. I was zoning out not paying attention to anything in particular when i noticed a car come barreling down the hill and flip over the meridian. At first i thought i was daydreaming and i said, "oh, thats kinda crappy?" and my dad pulled over right away into a parking lot and tossed me his cell, while he ran over to the car i called 911 and after i was finished i proceeded to the accident where my dad had one guy out of the car. I attended to him with my first aid knowlege (which came in handy) while my dad went to the other guy who had flown out the window durring the collision. While stablizing this guy who seemed to be ok with the execption of numerous cuts he started vomiting all over the place, i remember that vomit well= pizza and beer, lots of beer. In discust, i let him go (he was concious, he wasn't about to choke on his own vomit) and the paramedics arrived and we talked to the cops about what happened and left. I was uber pissed that these idiots were drinking and driving endangering their lives and others. I am glad they hit the meridian and not a mother driving her kids home from school. Drinking and driving is bad. |

Aren't we fortunate to live in a society where we so rarely have to confront the fragility of our existence that when we do, we don't know how to react?
Well, aren't we?
...perhaps not... |

Man, that's crazy sh*t. Hope everyone's OK. I'd be pretty shaken if I saw something like that. I remember one time when my old french teacher came into school and said that he'd witness a car crash.
This guy was on a motorbike and was racing down the road, coming up behind them really quickly. He went to overtake them on a bend, and didnt see the car and lorry coming from the other direction. He pulled out to overtake my teacher, hit the car coming the other way and flew off his bike, straight under the lorry that was behind the car.
My teacher and a collegue who was in the car with him, saw his head get ripped clean off as he went under the lorry's wheels. They were both well shaken up, as would I have been if i'd seen that. It just goes to show that a moments lack of concentration can be fatal on the roads today.

I've seen quite the few MVA's (Motor Vehicle Accident) being a firefighter for some time now...
I've only seen a few of them happen right before my eyes (mainly not too damaging ones).
Worst one I remember was when we had arrived at the scene and a car was stuck to the back of a truck with a person still trapped inside (old lady). As we approached the car, we saw that the lady was propped up against the driver's side door, face to window, not moving. The back of the truck looked as though it were touching her head. As soon as we took the Herss tool out and cut the car in half, the woman's body just fell apart, head mainly with brains everywhere. Turns up the back of the truck was holding her head in one piece...
Icky >.< |
