ok...in class today we were talking about playing music in a restaurant and how you're supposed to pay royalties if you play music in the restaurant. so we got to DJs then. someone said that they need to be licensed in order to play in clubs. is this true? as a club owner do you have to pay royalties too? i'm sure we can figure this out....maybe someone could PM dave dresden. is this true in other countries too? sorry if this is the wrong section to post this in...so mods you may move it if it should go somewhere else.....

isnt it the club that pays an annual fee and the original artist gets money from royalties?
i think its similar with radio stations as well

The event organizer (club owner, radio station, etc) is responsible for paying their ASCAP license fee. The individual performer is not responsible, unless that performer is the organizer of the event (rave at a one time location, etc).
