what do you mean who gives a ? im curious to know too..

actually if it were me I would have named house trance, since its so repetitive and has sounds more similar to old tribal beats that actually were meant to put people in a trance...

is like asking why is techno techno (not those ed up ppl who call ice mc or e-rotic techno).
The closest meaning i could get is Technology, the combining form of art, science. which means art= music = techno; the future sound of music.

Another thing is house and jungle... Why don't they call it hotel, bunglow..mansion... or forest, wilderness... desert

N-ni-way, enuff of the crap. My Opinion: Trance is called "trance" its because its drugs orientated.

considering roots of the music were being played mid 70's and it was a genre by the 80's i seriously doubt that those djs coined the phrase in the late 80's as it was already and established genre by then. As for who did coin it i havent the slightest, but much like what genre something is, not really a big interest of mine

Do you have any grasp on the history of club culture? any remote grasp? The original founders of the electronic genres were so drugged up they put hippies to shame, there is a reason it is so stereotypical for trance to be affiliated with drugs, because it came from drugs, while the numbers are lower now of non drug people unfortunately it was founded and produced for people on drugs, If you ever have listened to trance on drugs it is pretty damn prevalent heh. The early club scenes the few straight edgers were so rare it was ridiculous, so yes a drug induced trance is a very reasonable and likely feeling, My guess is also the musics ability to make you blank out, drugged or not. I wish all the I am drug free i am the way to be nazis would quit pretending drugs didnt found the genre as much as synthesisers did, like it or not that was how it was and still partially is.

Of course I knew that some time ago this music was dominated by drugs ... I just dont like hearing electronica being associated with drugs, nor being associated with gay people.
Ugh.

Thats not how and why I got into electronica, and I dont like those things.....
