*Texan* Regardless of where I'm from anyone who murders someone should be killed themselves. A disease? Honestly I wouldn't care if the person who killed a man woman or child was mentally retarded. If that person has the capacity to murder another human being said person should in tern get the same as a punishment.
I don't believe in healing those that have gone beyond the point of redemption. |

Umm, in case anyone missed my *sarcasm* earlier, I was being quite fececious when stating this guy needs rehab.
How in the f$ck could a thing like that who's killed 48 women be successfully rehabed and sent back out into society?
Umm, riiight. |

As difficult as this may be to defend, I believe that two wrongs don't make a right and am against the death penalty.
Personally, if I were faced with:
1) Life in prison without the possibility of parole, spending every single day of my remaining life with the scum of humanity or by myself...
or
2) Death by lethal injection...
I would much rather the second alternative.
This whole situation does make me wonder however, if this guy killed 48 people, why is the prosecution bargaining with him? Don't they have enough evidence to convict him without his confession? Something doesn't seem right here. |

In the context of our ty legal system this was probably a wise choice. The trial would have lasted years, doubtless would have faced years upon that of appeals. Even that would have been no guarentee of a guilty verdict.
So the decision is between either:
A. Letting him live but without freedom, but sparing society the expense of a prolonged trial.
or
B. Giving him a nice warm fuzzy death if you get a conviction, most likely 20+ years later at a huge expense to society. |

From what I listened to on NPR this morning, the prosecution had a couple of reasons. First, he has been very cooperative since his capture in confessing his other murders, as well as showing where the other bodies were located. Second, somehow they thought it would be difficult to prosecute - since the death penalty has been enacted in Washington St. some 30 years ago, there had only been 4 convictions. So I guess they consider that state somewhat anti-death penalty or something. Finally, the cost of trial, and the subsequent years on death row would have costed the WA taxpayers millions of dollars on this one case, which again wasn't too favorable to the prosecution.
All in all, I say BS - I'd hang this guy in a heartbeat, as I see this as a definite brutal exception to my anti-death penalty stance. |

Floggings? I'm really upset that public torture is a thing of the past ... :(. Think of how cool it would be to have whipping wednesdays or flogging fridays. We could all collect some cabbage and tomatoes to throw at people as they cart them by. And spend some good wholesome family time away from the tv. |

i have to agree with the first post... people that are that ed up (and yes i realise they must have mental problems... but with problems that severe.. i think termination is the most humane thing period.. for both sides) people that are tha ed up don't desrve $40,000 a year of our taxes going to pay for thier imprisonment. if you're that ed up the only cure IMO is some warm soothing euthinasia.
and i do think cane-ing should be used.. particularly on the more violent of todays young un's... if they want to dish out pain then i think they should have the intamacy of feeling it as well.
oh.. i also think that if you kill more than 5 peopl you should be split in half transylvania style (yes.. there is a transylvania and king dracul was the guy dracula was based on.. at one point his country was so crazy that the only way he could get people to pay taxes was to split them in half by tieing wieghts to their feet and hand and siiting them atop a metal wedge.. they didn't die until the blade hit their heart.. it probably took at least 30 seconds for the blade to reach their heart... and that'sa long 30 seconds. |

Sorry, wasn't sure if you were being sarcastic but the way you wrote it it didn't sound like sarcasm. Yer right, thats not a rational statement in any way.
BTW, even though I think this guy deserves death...prison is no playground I bet even with cable television and such. A lifetime of prison would definetly suck. All in all, I'm sure this sick will get his in the afterlife provided there is one. |
