You may be able to make your player region-free with a simple hack. Search here for your player: http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdhacks . Alternatively, if your player can't be hacked, check the site first to make sure any new player you buy has hacks.
Keep in mind that some hacks will be complicated, while others may just require some remote commands, or a CD burnt with a special file inserted in the player.
If you have the technical ability to hack it yourself, it's much better, since DVD players that are sold as region-free command much higher prices than normal ones. DVD-ROM drives are usually easy to hack, but if you screw them up in the process, it's a more expensive mistake.
