PRAXIS test

Just took the PRAXIS test today. Its an 3.5 hr test, like the SAT, which contains 3 sections: math, reading comprehension, and writing/grammar. You have to pass this to be accepted into a teaching certification program.

Let me tell you this f*ckers hard, there are over 150 questions and you have a little over a minute to answer each one. After you're finished with that, you write 200+ word essay on a random topic in under 30 min.

Well the good news is I know i passed everything except the written, I'll get the results in 2 weeks after the essay is evaluated. Standardized test suck cause they measure your apptitude by seeing if you can answer questions design to trick you rather than test your knowledge. Oh well hope i pass so i dont need to retake it. I'm going to down a well deserved beer.

You have to jump tru a lot of academic hopes that have little to do with your ability to teach effectively in the classroom.

Eventhough I have a 4 yr degree in art, I need to go back to college 1.5 years just earn teacher certification. Then after you get hired you're required to go back to college and earn your masters degree. It takes a lot of work, time, and money, and the salary is joke but you do it for the love of it.

I thought all you had to do was take like 4 or 5 teaching classes. What grades are you teaching...

and I took the GRE's a year ago, same , really long and tough. I did horrible on the verbal cause they asked you to deifne useless words.

I also had to write for 45 mins after they gave me this, "The mind will always be greater than tehmachine because the machine is a product of the mind". pretty simple but it has to be really really structured.

The thing I don't like about standardized tests are your score changes after you take it once or you practice....so you wonder what it is measuring.

k-12 art, but the standards vary from state to state and universities can require you to take lots of non related liberarts courses so they can make money off you. For example, I took Pre-Cal, Physics, adv US history, and 3 yrs of Spanish in high school, but I would need to retake all those at the college level according to their program. In addition I would need to take a pile education/art related courses. I wouldnt have a problem doing so if it went towards an actual degree.

My biggest problem with standardized test it the emphasis on speed, I'm pretty smart but I'm not quick. For example I aced the math test but since i only finished 75% I barely passed. How does acurately measure my aptitude in math?
