What's
the "First Section"
that you examine
(and give importance)
in a track?

| Melody & Harmony are essential in my opinion |

Whatever catches my ear first. I tend to just put a song on and then do something else. If some part of the song really catches my attention, it's my favorite part of the song. I guess.
I tend to analyze songs as the whole, not piece by piece. |

First I listen to the melody. See whether it fits in the track properly (exp: build-up of 5 min and 30 sec melodie, is most of the time a big nono)
Then I listen whether the track is build properly. Is there a bassline? Did they use chords? Does it have decent beat? Does the beat interfere with the melody. Are transissions smooth, etc.
If there are vocals in the track, they have to be balanced out decently. If their not, they simply ruin a track for me, how good it may otherwise be. |

| Definitly the bass and drums. If they aren't original, I'm not spinning it! |

| Totally depends on the tune, I just listen to the big picture... although the melody's important, a crap melody can ruin a track, but so can other crap elements |

| Structure, because many prog tunes do not have strong melody... |
