Canine carcasses in restaurant freezer
EDMONTON - Health authorities are investigating after four carcasses that appear to be dogs were found in the freezer of an Edmonton restaurant.
'In the restaurant-inspection area, this is the strangest thing that I've seen, hands down'—health inspector
The discovery was made Tuesday at the Panda Garden restaurant on Kingsway Avenue.
The Edmonton S.P.C.A. received a call about the carcasses, and then notified the Capital Health Authority.
Richard Reive, the health inspector who was sent to the restaurant, says the carcasses were found in the walk-in freezer.
"Picture about a 30-lb. animal that's been skinned and frozen solid," Reive says. "It's a canine of some form. Whether it's a dog or coyote I can't say. In the restaurant-inspection area, this is the strangest thing that I've seen, hands down."
Reive says wildlife officials will determine what species the animals are. He says charges of having uninspected meat in a restaurant will almost certainly be laid.
Reive says he hasn't been able to question the owners, since the restaurant was closed, and they haven't made themselves available to him.

| HAHAHAHA i live close to edmonton and we got that story in our local paper. I thought about posting it in the chillout room because there was a guy who was angry that suggested some chinese people eat cats and dogs. I don't have a scanner though so i left the article. Im glad someone posted it! The chinese resturant across the street from where my boyfriend works got busted a couple of years ago with a goat in their freezer. |

People in the good ole US of A eat WAY worse things than dog and goat.
Try reading Fast Food Nation sometime. |

It's about time my city gets some noteriety. A while ago I was considering exploring the various "ethnic" cuisine offerings in Edmonton until this story hit. I'll just stick to hormone and anti-biotic saturated supermarket fare for a little while longer now.
They showed pictures of the animals on the news and the first thing that struck me was how little meat there was on them. You'd think the owners would find some fatter dogs to feed their customers.
A little bit of a followup: Apparently the owners have left town and taken EVERYTHING with them. Even the booths in the restaurant are gone now (and they belong to the landlord :haha: ) so these people seem to be VERY confused about the laws over here (or they don't care more likely). I hope they get caught. |

| I think dogs are eaten incertain parts of China (my source is that Wong Fei Hung movie where he feeds the chick dog meat). Nothing wrong with that per se, as long as the customers know what they're eating and it has been inspected (which wasn't the case here). Other than that, meat's meat... who cares where it came from... |
