It goes from sl 1200
sl 1200 mk1
sl 1200 mk2 ??
How does it go someone post the rankings of the sl 1200's because i'm getting mk2's tonight for 800 canadian (mint condition) |

it's sl-1200, sl-1200mk2, sl-1200m3d, sl-1200m3d-ltd, sl-1200mk5, sl-1200mk5g
they haven't made the original sl-1200 for about 20 years. the don't make the sl-1200m3d's anymore either. any of them will work just fine. i still use a pair 1200mk2's. no sense in upgrading. the mk5's have a slightly upgraded tone arm and the mk5g's have a more upgraded tone arm that's supposed to eliminate almost all skipping. the mk5 and mk5g also have an anti-skating setting that goes to 5 grams as opposed to 3 grams but that's really a moot point since you should be setting your anti-skating to 0 anyway. the mk5's and mk5g's have a blue led to replace the stylus popup incandescent bulb. the mk5g's (but not the mk5's) have a selectable pitch adjustment range of +-8% and +-16%. that's really about the only differences. cheers. |

that's about $600 u.s., if they're in like new or really good condition then that's a good price. |

Probably a bit late for you now (as you've probably already finalized the purchase), but it's a great price for the decks if they are in good shape. To put it in perspective for you, my Technics mk2s were approx $750 each brand new a year ago.
In fact, it's a bit unusual to see them going for so cheap, they usually hold their value really well...hmmmm.... |

I got a used mk2 for 225$. the pitch was kinda off, so i replaced it with the M3d pitch slider..(35$ for part) --> 260$ 6mos ago.
I got a brand new m3d about 5 mos ago for 325$ and a slightly used m3d for 225$.
3tt's... I think if you find the mk2 or m3d's at a shop, they should be really cheap cuz as VIO said, they arent made anymore. |

so the only thing that technics are producing now are the MK5/MK5Gs?
edit: within the last 5 minutes of lookin, most sites are even out of the m3ds.
and one final question: is there anything else different about the m3ds than the mk2s other than the pitch-slider? (which can be replaced) |

they make the sl-1200mk2, sl-1200mk5 and the sl-1200mk5g. of course there is the 1210 version of all of those but the only difference being it has a voltage switch to switch between 110v and 220v. the m3d has a recessed power switch, a pitch slider without the center click, a quartz lock engage button and a holder for an extra cart. also it has a hingeless dust cover. those are the only differences. the mk5 differences i listed in a previous post in this thread. cheers |

1200s will last you for 20 years so it's not really a matter of how old they are but what condition they're in. mine are over 3 years old and you can't tell them from a pair brand new out of the box. if they are in as good condition as mine then they are a good buy at that price. |
