Well, I don't really know of any software, but if you're a dj, get some turntables! You can get a cheap pack with a mixer and two tables for like 200-300 dollars. They're not great, but perfect if you're just starting out!
Oh, and another word of advice. When you first start shopping for vinyl, go to the bargain bins first. I've found some great stuff for half the price of regular releases. I've even found white labels in there. |

To be honest, those starter kits for 200-300 dollars aren't the real quality ones.. Decent decks will cost you 400 EACH (and then, there's no mixer included..). It's expensive to start with, I know (everyone here has done it :) ), but it's oh so rewarding..
As for learning how to mix: there are several threads on this board about that, try to listen to famous DJs and understand how they do it, try to copy. When you have mastered the basics, develop your own style.
For the rest: I think there are enough kind people here who are willing to help you. |

| Well.. if you can mix on ty turntables, you can mix on good ones as well.. But just don't buy ones that are TOO crappy, they'll make you lose interest when things don't work out the way you want em to.. |

the club standard are technics mk2 or m3ds but Technics are coming out with a new line which I dont know of exactly..
On the other hand, the Numark TTX1's are decent good decks but I already have a pair of Mk5s....but if I had a second choice it would probably be some Stanton's, Stanton has some decent direct drive decks, you might want to look into Stanton STR8-60x which comes with a needle and they cost under 200 each, Its not the best out there but its a decent turntable with direct drive and the basic things you need to get you started.
I like Vestax Mixers but I dont know what your budget is, the Vestax PMC-17A is just under 200 dollars so the grand total for 2 stanton decks with the needle and a Vestax PMC-17A will run you about 500 dollars if you find some decent deals. |

Hi there!
Really cool to hear that a girl like you wants to learn how to mix, the scene needs more of you :)
Anyway, if you want to learn the basics of DJing, and most importantly beatmatching, and don't have the money to buy some turntables or cd-players just yet, try software like Visiosonic PCDJ or Virtual Turntables. For beginners I think PCDJ is perfect, I started using that myself before I bought turntables and stuff. The reason why it's so good is the fact that it is very basic, and very easy to learn. You don't need loads of extra features and automatic this-and-that (like you get with Traktor) in the beginning. PCDJ's interface looks exactly like the real thing (two very simple cd-players and an even more basic mixer) and so it's very easy to adapt to real gear if you choose to buy some later. Be sure to turn any auto-bpm feature off, as learning to beatmatch properly on your own is the most important part of mixing trance/house.
Maybe you know already, but the basic idea when mixing two tracks into each other is to adjust the speed of the incoming track so that it matches the speed of the track beeing played (i.e. beatmatching), and to do this you move the slider called the pitch-slider (the one near the incoming track) up (usually to decrease the speed) or down. There are lots of tutorials on this and lots more on the net:

Good luck! |
