A Comment on the Saturation of Mixes

I'd rather post this in a new thread because ultimately no one effin reads them if they get past page 2.
A valid point has been made, as of late there have been an over abundance of online sets recorded. And I DO agree, something needs to be done about it.
HOWEVER...
A few things I must note:
- a majority of the malevolent comments made came from people who frankly don't give a about local talent (which is their entitled opinion) or never took the time to even listen to the sets in the first place (assumption based on reviews made by said poster)
- ultimately this board is about trance (or trance music and all it's encompassing elements) and I think the posting of sets adds more to the discussion rather then threads pertaining to "Old Navy Adverts", "Movie Threads", or "Welcome threads".
- suggestions would have been helpful along with your suggestive (somewhat negative) criticism
Thanks |

I am going to add to this and say that I agree with Jon. I like the mixes and I have taken time to actually review most of them and if I haven't I will get to them as soon as I can. Its much better then discussion the great importance of zamboni drivers to our society.
Anyways, as I stated in the other thread, we can all see that the demos were a passing fad and there just happened to be a few posted in one day that made it seem like too much.
D/L the sets and give feedback. If you want to discuss stupid not about the scene in TO and things that pertain to TO, then take it to Chill Out room. Those poor people are waiting for your input, I'm sure. |

For the record I don't want the stupid moved to the Chill Forum. I enjoy the random Toronto banter as well, it adds to the community aspect

I just think bitchin about the sets was counterproductive. |

| I agree with that somewhat. I do agree there have been some REALLY stupid threads but somtimes it is ok. I Think that this is a place to make non-music related threads but I also think that ppl have to keep in mind what we are here. |

Well there is funny stupid and stupid stupid.
Give me a joke (threads i will open) or give me info on something but not really dumb things that are discussed here. |

I'm usually one of the first to flame stupid threads... but I also don't think that "random" necessarily implies "stupid." Some of us may choose to post random threads in here, because well, to put it bluntly, we don't like the kind of ignorant crap responses that get posted in the chillout room, and would rather just hear from the people we know and like.
I personally like seeing the mixes posted. It's difficult to take the time to review so many, as it takes a long time to word a proper review, but I'm not sure if reviews are really the purpose of posting them. They're useful, of course, but a demo mix is put up so people can hear their style and tell all their friends how awesome (or not) they are.
At the moment, I can think of very little to complain about in terms of the content of this forum. Lots of events, mixes, and talk about the scene, a few chill-out-type threads, and not a lot of overt flaming. Seems pretty much ideal to me. |

i really hope that wasnt aimed towards me, i fully support local talent, i was at entrance 1, i went to entrance 2 but was not allowed in, and i would have been at all TA invasions if i was off age, ive donwloaded all of the TA5 sets, and have lisened to about 3 so far, i lisened to skippers set ( very good btw) also.
i can see how you might take my comments negativily in the other thread, but all i was saying ( and i thought i made it clear) was that YES we want to hear everyones mixes! but we also want to be able to look at the forum and see threads that arent just about demos
also Firestarters idea in that thread was EXACTLY what i was trying to get at :D
Halo20, im not going to take this personanlly, and i dont want to start anything with you. so lets just leave it at this thx |

I agree. Bring on the sets...I love them. So far, I've listened to a couple (many times over), and just downloaded all the TA Invasion 5 stuff. I really enjoyed Aaron's set prior to hitting the main room for Max and it's cool to not only get a tracklistings, but have the sets!
Keep em coming :D
and there's nothing wrong with "stupid" or "random" threads, as long as they are in reasonably good taste (ie. not attacking/bashing anyone)...it keeps things fun. If people don't like them...don't read them  Having some off-topic stuff in here helps people get to know each other...talking *only* about trance would get...dare I say it...boring ;) |

| I agree with Margaret, the oversaturation of mixes occured by coincidence and soon they will be off the radar. Personally I don't make many demos, the last one I made was back in March! So I can assure all of you that you won't be seeing another demo from me anytime soon, and in the event that I do decide to make one, I highly doubt I'll post it. Perhaps the best solution to this Demo mix issue is for all DJ's to revert to the old way of doing things: give demos only to those who request one; either in person or through file transfer. |

Sorry Carlos, I completely disagree.
Why the hell should we revert to things the HARD way? Because some people can't read over a certain thread? lol (while in the meantime we have threads about the new season of 24)
Unlearn? Why not embrace the technology we have?
The answer is not to abuse the system and post a set every month or so. I mean this is my first set posted online ever. I've been spinning for 4 years and I had a load of people say that didn't even know I had turntables. LOL There is an in between here. |

i still stick by my suggestion about creating a TOTA subforum exclusively for demo threads ..
tho i dunno if the powers that be would like this idea since it would cause for some redundancy and a lotta extra threads on the database that might already be posted in the amateur DJ forum. but then again, at this rate we're going, maybe it doesn't even matter since it could still happen without a subforum regardless!

It was the first time I have ever posted a mix online as well, and I see what you're saying. However, the problem is that although you can control your individual submission rate you can't control the overall submission rate. How can you predict when other DJ's are going to be finished a demo and post it? |
