I have heard that the connection with the tonearm in the concorde cartridges can run in to problems, particularily if you take them on and off alot. How old and frequently removed were your cartridges?
The problem could be either the cartridge or the tonearm being a little messed up at the connection point. I'd try using your carts on somebody elses table to see if it works well, and also whip out your headshells and a cheap needle to make sure that the tonearm itself is all good. (Alternatively you could get somebody else to lend you their concordes but that may prove difficult) Either way for the future you'll probably want to switch to the OM style cart as this problem is supposed to be less likely to occur with them.
Assuming just your carts are messed up, then your best bet for replacing them would be to go to a store that sells ortofon carts and explain your situation to them. There is a chance that they would be willing to sell you the cartridge minus a needle and the cost of one if they are nice enough. Also if it may be worth seeing if ortofon themselves would be willing to replace the carts though I am unaware of their warrenty policy.
Good luck and let us know how it goes, I hope things aren't too messed up. |
