Sultan
Sultan was born and raised in the Middle East and currently resides in Montreal where he began his career as a dj and producer. He currently has a weekly residency at Level (club Living). Throughout the past two years of his djing career, Sultan has had the opportunity to play alongside world renowned djs and producers such as Deep Dish, Saeed and Palash, Sander Kleinenberg, Nick Warren, Lee Burridge, Chris Fortier, Omid(16B) and Danny Howells.
In addition to his weekly residency at Living, Sultan has obtained monthly residencies in several of Montreal's afterhours including Stereo, Sona and Redlight. He has also played in several other Canadian cities and countries such as Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan.
Originally a guitarist and keyboardist for six years with his alternative rock, jazz band Purusha, Sultan only took to house production in 2001. Influenced by his endeavours with the band and by the Middle Eastern rhythms that played a big role in his childhood, Sultan's portfolio now includes ten signed original productions, five of which are collaborations with ToneDepth and will be released during the course of this year on Alola and Yooshi.
Tonedepth
Tonedepth was raised in Europe and the Middle East and moved to Canada in 1994 to launch his production career. With similar influences to Sultan, ToneDepth has built an outstanding portfolio of original productions and remixes which have been played out by djs all over the world. His first release dates back to March 2000 on Sporadic Groove Records and since he has released his original producitons and remixes on Bedrock Records, Engine Records and Fade Records. These original productions have also been featured on compilations including Paul Oakenfold "Another World" and "Travelling", D:Fuse "Progressive mix sessions 1.0", and John Debo "Logic Trance 5". ToneDepth also has very succesful djing career. He plays alongside Sultan at the Level nights at Club Living as well as a monthly residency at Stereo. He plays regularly in his homeland of Greece where he plays alongside such luminaries as Paul Oakenfold.
ToneDepth and Sultan began collaborating together as a production team in December 2001. With similar backgrounds, influences and cultures they have developed their own original sound. Their first original production "Sagres" released on Alola has already been played by Paul Oakenfold on the essential selection on April 26, 2002 and is currently being played out by Deep Dish, Nick Warren and Saeed and Palash. Sagres's middle eastern percussive rhythm and the soothing Spanish vocal by Stephanie Vezina has made it an essential track for every dancefloor.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
When combined these two produce the most amazing productions. With guitar lead melodies and enormous bass lines, they are "the producers of the moment." The progressive scene as of late has been greatly influenced by the use of guitars in production work. From Gabriel and Dresden, to Unkle, to Mark Otten, and of course one of my favorites, Matthew Dekay. But no one touches the talent that Sultan and Tonedepth express through music. I hope to see a lot more of these guys in the future. Yet another reason to love progressive.

Tony was born in Montreal, lived in Toronto for a short time, then Maryland and Virginia, then Bahrain (Persian Gulf), with a couple of years in Cyprus then back to Bahrain. He then moved back to Toronto, then Alberta, and now lives in Montreal for the past 6 or 7 years.
His biggest influence was his time in Bahrain, as well as his first days of clubbing in Cyprus. He started playing guitar at 11, after a near death experience in Bahrain. |
