Ok, heres the deal, I have only been spinning for about 3-4 months, and sometimes instead of beatmatching, I will have the record playing, then start the other one, and I wont even use my headphones sometimes, but I know my tracks so well, its kind of like they just blend in together...is this taking the easy way out ...?

You mean mixing the records during the breakdowns / atmospheric parts ? It can sound good if the melodies go well together but don't overuse it ... people will thing that you can't beatmatch.

for example...say track 1 is playing, and it is near the end of the track, I start up track 2, barely having the volume up on track 2, and slowly turn down the volume on track 1 while track 2 gets louder and then i bring in track 2, with no beatmatching at all, but it sounds great...thats what I have been doing...

Kinda like using a crossfader? But that method of mixing involves no skill. If you did that live at a club or rave over and over again they would just laugh at you. You are only truly mixing if you are beatmatching.

Well of course, you have to use the cross fader, but yea I guess I will just keep practicing and practicing till I get my beatmatching down...

no you can actually do that w/o a crossfader, just putting it in the middle and using your up and down (input leve) faders..
but what jesten means is that its a joke, any retard can fade songs in and out
the beats will still clash, just you're fading in/out so its not so (?)obvious
even tho it is :p
work at the beatmatching you'll get it w/ practice and id say a good time frame is 2 months to be real comfortable |

true peps,, i been DJ for 5 years and seldom Fade mixing,, its kinda the easy way out ,, it just depends on the track i guess .. Graham Gold and Seb fontaine did Fade mixing a lot in past years i dunno now coz i dont like their styles.. i guess each to their own but serious the crowd know when ur taking the easy option,, i say stick to beat matching coz when u dropp that bass line in and they mix together its what the crowd love aka 17.20 onwards part of the Tiesto energy 2000 mix ,, thats really hitting the spot big time :)) love it..
