| People who are really really into Heavy Metal probably get similar sorts of feelings to people who are really really into Trance...or Techno...or Folk Music...etc etc. You just cant get the same thing out of it because your not mentally wired up to appreciate that kind of music. |

That's a same kind of generalisation as all who listen to trance are pill popping candy ravers.
I happen to like Nirvana & Oasis quite a lot - Nirvana is excellent when you're really pissed off and need to vent and Oasis is nice for more chilled out feelings.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you can generalise. |
Too true. I hate when people generalize people who listen to rock. Ohhh, you must be depressed and angry. Ohhh, you wanna kill yourself. Music is the same no matter what kind of sound it has. It's people expressing their feelings through instruments. Oasis is in reality a great band. They have very talented musicians and their lyrics are very poetic. Nirvana...well Nirvana really brought rock into the mainstream. Without bands like them we would still be listening to 80's hair metal. And you can not truly say 80's hair metal is better than Oasis or Nirvana.
My friend makes fun of me all the time for being a trance DJ. Whenever he's around and I'm spinning he always dances around like he's at a rave. He thinks that since I listen to trance, I'm some teenager who does E and dances around with lights on his hands. But see, that's what he thinks. I honestly don't care what you do while you're listening to music. I always freak out when I hear a song I love. Dance around in my room with my cd player going. I don't give a who sees me. It's my music. So before you make fun of something, you have to understand it. If rock never came around, some electronic stuff would never have been though of. I mean, PVD did Times of our Lives with a rock band. And that song is great. We owe a lot to the first musicians of Grunge and Brit Rock. |

I guess they appreciate metal just like how we appreciate trance. Probably its the lyrics, the riffs, or the sheer crazyness that does it for them.. hell i have no idea..
If you could get your hands on a metal video or something check out the hand movements on the guitar.. its like 200 strums a second or some .. thats crazy and takes skill.
besides trance i'm into rock as well .. foo fighters, blink, green day, rob zombie, manson.. the list goes on. I guess I can relate to these other genres and appreciate guitars thats why I listen to them. |

I used to like a lot of Metallica (old), Megadeth, Nirvana, Sevendust, Rob Zombie etc. I've always liked fairly hard-hitting music, perhaps this is also why i like Hard Trance these days.
I never really listend to the lyrics and was not like OMG DEATH KILL SATAN etc., I did it more for the music. eg the expression of powerful drums, riffs gave me some sort of energy, and still does. However I feel a little bit more these days with Hard Trance, but yeah for me it was a similar thing, only less diverse as what Trance is.
Perhaps the more melodic types of metal (eg Iron Maiden) could be compared to Trance? |

In general I've noticed how people preach about open-mindedness (is that a word?) to people who bash trance yet they are so close minded that they won't listen to anything but [insert-fave-subgenre-here].
I have always loved all kinds of music and trance is just a genre among others. It doesn't matter what genre the tune is in, if it's good then it's good.
People appreciate different things and you people should accept it. |

People listen to heavy metal because it excites them, it energises them....obviously most people here have never been to a heavy metal (or punk) concert and been in the mosh pit. The most pit is crazy fun!!!
Heavy metal is just another genre of music. Just because you don't like and/or understand it, doesn't mean you should criticise it.
Also, if you listen to some quality metal like Tool or Deftones, then you would hear some really good lyrics in the songs they play. The lyrics are very meaningful.
P.S. not sure if Tool can be classed as metal, but they are still awesome IMO. |

erm....people who say "xxxxxxx rulez zzzzzz sux" (xxx=one genre and zzzz one other) should better listen to more genres and then say something about it...
i mean i have listened to metal and rock for a few years...there are nice songs and whoever says that metal is "noise"...well trance sounds noise to lots of people.and pls dont say about groups that existed before when you were born... |
