Whats the term?

Hey,
I was wondering if there is a term the pros use to describe the following:
---
That portion of a song when the music and everything just stops for a second or two. Then you hear a short sample (or a word), then again, and again with more beats thrown in until you are brought back to the music in it full glory.
---
I dont know about the rest of you but i just love interludes like that. Its like a new beginning within the same thing, if that makes any sense. Plus it makes for an amazing moment on the dance floor; you stop and then pick up your pace with the music.
If there is no term for this can we just call it 'brilliance' or something like that?
While we are on the subject I would love to hear about great songs with great examples of this. I once heard a track (a friends own mix) in which he did this twice. That made it sound lame, like his system kept shutting down. Has anyone else had this experience?
Chill,
