A trophy to the man who breaks Johnny England's Left leg. He's single handedly ruined the game of Rugby Union with his pathetic field goals.

Pointy
Well what a en match!! The two penalty kicks from Flatly to keep us in it had me n all ma mates afraid to watch, hahahah.. Both sides deserved to win, and it turns out Johnny EN Wilkenson's beautiful boot won it for the English massive. I'm glad that it was such a close match, and Wilkenson didn't just pot dropkicks the whole game. I think i'll be the only aussie to say well done to England :p

I must say I'm Victorian and only watched like 1 other match of rugby in my life. But I enjoyed this one, was very entertaining while getting drunk with a few mates.
Err like well done England or something I guess...

I honestly didn't give a who won (doubled by the fact that, up until this world cup, I'd hardly watched a game of rugby in my life - one of the many benefits of being a Victorian ;) ) but what I couldn't stand was the bull invective coming from both sides during the world cup and leading up into the final. It was primarily media based, but still, the kinda that was being written (by both the Australian and English media) about the other side was shocking. I think the English and the Australians are more similiar than we'd care to acknowledge, yet based on what I've seen and read from journalists from both sides, you'd think we'd been at war with each other for decades. So a big " you" to both the English and Australian press who transcended the normally jocular way in which we get stuck into each other and transformed it into humourless national warfare.

Yet, having said that, congratulations to England and bad luck to Australia. Both played well (based on what I know about rugby  ) and I'm sure we'll all agree that it was a good game and it was a shame there had to be a loser. Hopefully all the parochial s will shut up for another four years and we can put all this behind us.... until the ashes of course. ;)

love your work

it was a in brilliant game and england couldve won by alot more (and should of) but the desperation shown by the aussies is what kept em in the game. flatleys nerve under pressure scored him some brownie points with me cause he is otherwise (and has a mighty big chin might i add, how he keeps his chin from slapping his dick is beyond me)

I dunno why any aussies should be feeling sore, after all it was a bloody good game and imo, we were lucky to get into overtime (thanks to flatley's crunch-time kicking)... England played better for virtually the whole game, but couldn't seal it at the end .. i mean, half the time gregan couldn't even get his hands on the ball outta the scrum cuz england's scrum was too good ... bloody good effort by both teams, and as the commentators couldn't stop saying enough - THE WINNER IS RUGBY!

So close, yet so far........

Well done to both teams in putting on a brilliant game for us fans.

pwned by johnny. that is all.

australia played bad, not well, after that first try. it was just downhill from there. too much fumbling, offence was weak, defense was shot.. and the poms totally dominated the last 10-15 mins going into half and then pretty much the rest of the match.

australia had many opportunities, but couldn't convert. oh and the poms had two near try opportunities.. imagine if those went down.

gg to both teams, but australia needed a performance similar to the one that took down the kiwis to win and they just couldn't bring it on the night that counted.

I think the scoreline was pretty reflective of the match - England played better than we did, but not by much.

We dominated the first 15 minutes, but while Larkham was in the blood bin for the next 10-15 minutes, we really lost our momentum. Matt Giteau is good, but has none of Larkham's experience or guile. That said, I thought we were the better side in the second half (except for our exceptionally poor lineouts and scrums). Remember England went scoreless for the entire second half, while we gradually reeled them in through penalty goals.

I agree that England have a bit of "Jonny and the Wilkinsonaires" about them, but he wouldn't be able to take potshots at goal like that if his forwards weren't dominating the breakdown.

Where to from here for the Aussies? Firstly, sack Wendell Sailor, send him back to rugby league. Guess who fell off the tackle on Greenwood that lead directly to Robinson's try? Guess who missed a tackle that let the other England player into a certain try-scoring position (he dropped the ball)? He can't kick, and can't tackle. Every other winger manages to kick and tackle properly (Rogers, Tuqiri, Roff), so why does Wendell automatically qualify for the team? What an absolute disgrace.
