Hmmm. Don't know how many people will care about this one, but Garritan Personal Orchestra is now available for US $249.00. This marks the moment when the hi-end orchestral sample library goes mainstream. Can't wait to see some of the scores users, who otherwise couldn't afford the sample libraries, compose with this program.
It could even be used in Trance if done so judiciously.
*Etheruim turns cartwheel in room in jubilant anticipation and....knocks over his Juno 106, oops* |

East West is releasing a similar library (was going to be released on 21 nov, but it got delayed to the 28th). It's the silver version of their Symphonic Library.
I found the brass on GPO a little bit unnatural, so in total I find the EWQL Silver to sound a little better.
But Vienna (you know, the makers of the huge and expensive Symphonic Orchestra Library) are releasing a less expensive sample pack called Opus one. It's not as cheap as GPO or the EWQL silver (I think it's about 800-1000$), but that one just sounds fabulous for the price. |

Indeed. I've been doing a lot of research at northernsounds and it seems this is the consensus based solely on the demos.
The brass does indeed sound unnatural (thank goodness for SAM horns).
The articulations and overall subtlety of expression award goes to GPO. The machine-gun effect is somewhat noticable with Silver.
I'm going with GPO, but at the prices, one could almost get both.
And yes, when I found out that VSL was releasing OpusI I was very excited, too bad I can't use it in Cubase.
Either way, these are very exciting times and I encourage anyone here who hasn't had the opportunity to play with such nice orchestral sample libraries to give it a shot, they will be amazed.

| Surprised nobody has mentioned Edirol - Orchestral. Fantastic sample library/vst for the money. |
