hi guys,
l've just always wanted to clearly understand what is meant by Progressive electronic music? Just give me a brief description ,name of the tracks, name of the djs that are related to progressive el-music...
Sometimes when l listen to electronic stuff and it seems to me "progressive " by the sound, but it may not be exactly the actual progressive music,eg. Are You A Freak - Mike Robbins ,Untitled - Solex ,Deftig (Past, Present, Future) - Y.O.M.C, The World - Dutch Courage [That Mucho Remix] ,Pure Devotion - Freeloader [Tukan's F&W Remix],The Promiseland - Hypetraxx, It's Showtime - VPL ..they sound "progressive " to me..but in reality..what is "progresssive music"?
cheers! |

the tunes you posted have nothing to do with progressive.
more like,
Silver Piece - Helicopter (Roland K Remix)
Holden & Thompson - Nothing (93 Returning Mix)
Subsky - Strawberry Fields
Jase from Outer Space - Do What You Want (Infusion Remix)
that'll give an idea.
btw, progressive was usually a sub-genre, either of house, or of trance, but now it's kinda becoming a new genre or new name for the tracks that are between trance and house. that isn't necessarily a rule, though. |

Ive always thought of as progressive as subtle and less-energetic than trance. Like there's no epic breakdown, more or less it's just a continuous beat pattern with some ambience in there.
But then again emono is right..It is movin forward so it is hard to define it.
I guess it's your own opinion really :) |

I have a problem with understanding what progressive music isas well, and you just made it more difficult for me. First of all, I dont have any of those tracks. Secondly, isn't trance was born in a mix of house and techno - and progressive is between trance and house? Huh? ......LOL:haha: :nervous:
Kinda confusing ..... |

progressive is not a genre by itself
its used to describe a genre

rofl!
i take it we're talking about progressive trance here, what most of us just refer to as prog
isn't the whole theory that while trance employs many buildups and breakdowns within a song, progressive just keeps building?
so in theory, in a one hour progressive set its just 50 minutes of solid buildup more or less and one absolutely massive whateveritscalled at the end
and trance does the same thing kinda, but it has stuff in between, going for just like one good buildup per song
kate bush vs infusion - running up that hill
TUNE
i can just imagine this near the end of a set and everything coming together :)
and someone correct me if i'm wrong, i'm just making this up but it seems good:p |
