I've had 4 of them.... they are amazing! Best invention. If you have access to your music library pretty regularly (i.e. you are not away from your computer for weeks at a time) get the 20GB model... I have the 30GB which was very useful for when I was backpacking through Europe for 9 weeks but now that I am back home and use my computer everyday I wish I had the 20GB model because A) it's cheaper and B) it's thinner.

Get one! :D

Check out support.apple.com for info about them... some are kindy screwy if you don't use them correctly... definitely use it with iTunes!!! No other program compares in compatibility.

there seems to be a few problems with them

* irreplacable batteries
* overpriced (nomad zen is like 25% cheaper)
* weak headphone amp
* jacks bust in them
* firmware bugs (playback irregularities in older models)
* cannot use on both platforms at the same time (you have to reformat your iPod to use it on a mac if you've been using on pc, etc.), which isn't really a disadvantage considering none of the other ones work on mac at all AFAIK.

I don't own one so I couldn't say if they are that great or not. These are just common complaints of iPod owners (once your battery dies your iPod is garbage btw.. ). I'm not sure how great Nomad Zen's are, especially given creative's abhorrent track record, but they seem to address at least a few of the iPod's issues. Decently sized Nomad Zen's are far cheaper though and have a considerably more powerful headphone amplifier built in, supposedly slightly superior signal quality as well (snr)...

I suspect they are of equal quality
and you are just paying for apple's name. Most apple hardware is overpriced... However, creative tends to make a lot of crap.. some of their stuff is *okay*... best look around to see if there is any major issues with a piece of creative hardware before you lay down money for them.

Get a mp3 CD player and not an Ipod.
They won't skip because they'll be padded by around $200 you save.

i actually have one so here goes.

bought mine more than a year ago. still kicking. :cool:
ten or twenty gig is probablly all you going to need.
i love my i pod. no problems here. headphones are ok. i never really blast it to begin with. don't want to ruin my ears.
it takes a while to categorize everything into different genres and like that but after you are done enjoy. i heard the zen is cheaper but i don't know about quality.

the ipod i have has been great. definitely worth the money i shelled out for it. i wouldn't suggest getting an ipod unless you really need it, and by that i mean its secondary function (external firewire HD). i use it on a regular basis for presentations to clients and to students.

the functionality of the ipod is excellent, the touchpad is great and really easy to use. a friend of mine has had her ipod for...a good 3 years now at least and it's never failed her. true if the battery dies, you're ed, but in my experience, no one i know has had their ipod battery screw them over.

but i reiterate, don't waste your moneyz on an ipod unless you can take full advantage of its capabilities. if it's a mp3 player you're after, their are a lot of cheaper alternatives.
