K so i'm thinking of doing this song for my high school's battle of the bands, but the only major hitch (which if i did it would be the part that'd make it amazing) is that there's one part where the lead singer mark grohl or w/e screams for about 30 straight seconds and i really just can't do that right now, i've tried and i can get like 3/4 of the way thru before i just start wheeing.
so does anyone know any good ways to extend how long i can hold a note for?
or just as an aside, anyone got any cool ideas for songs to do for the battle of the bands? (its pretty much rock, and thats what my friends like so don't like suggest we go up there with synths a la revenge of the nerds, although that would be dope) |

start giving your friends blowjobs underwater. it will not only build up your lung capacity and endurance, it will makes you VERY popular among your peers.
j/k. stop smoking. |

Time for the *cheesy* side of Ozma...
I used to be in the chorus at my high school (oh, seems so long ago). A good way to hold a note longer, is by keeping your back straight, and try breathing through your chest. Fill your lungs with air and sing from what seems the bottom of your stomach. Make sure you have good posture, and that you practise.
Good luck! :) |

First learn to breathe properly:
Lie down flat on your back and take a deep breath. Watch what part of your body rises as you breathe in, I'm betting your ribs expand and your upper chest rises. This is not the best way to breathe for singing and does not utilise the full capacity of your lungs. Also this isn't conducive to producing the most powerful sound with your diaphragm.
Now place a book on your stomach. This time when you breathe in try to breathe as deep into your lower lungs as you can. Keep your upper chest still and make your stomach rise.
When your stomach can't rise any higher, then start filling up the rest of your lungs, allowing your chest to rise progressively higher until it is full and you can not possibly inhale any more air. Then start letting air out, first from the lowest part of your lungs, allowing your stomach to slowly drop, then higher until you can't exhale any longer. Once you've got this down try it while standing up. Try and make the inhalation and exhalation last as long as possible. When you're exhaling imagine yourself as a syringe pushing air out - the push should come from the bottom, from your diaphragm.
Now try also holding your breath for as long as you can after you inhale. Then doing a scale as you exhale. |
