| ok supposedly i have "parasites" on my computer and i'm getting a popup that says i need to scan my computer etc... i'm using SpyHunter and it's scanning it now and all these things are showing up but it only lets me remove them if i purchase the software. does anyone know of any FREE software i can use to do this?? any other advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks. |

Lavasoft
Download Ad-Aware (regular version) from there.
If you clicked on one of those IE popups that said "scan your computer now" then the popup was bull, it's just an attempt to sell their crappy software. |

ok that lavasoft thingy worked...thanks digi..just to make sure, here is an example of something that was found using that software
Vendor: CometCursor (whatever that is)
Type: RegKey
Category: Data Miner
Object: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE:Software\CometSystems\
what is that? is that safe to get rid of? |

| yes get rid off it. All it is a registry key for this specific software. Dont do it manually, let the Ant-Virus do it. Because you might delete other reg keys by mistake which are very critical to your computer. |

i'm getting nervous doing this cuz i'm at work...but whatever, we are getting new comps soon anyway. i'm assuming i'm doing it through the software...i wouldn't even know where to start if i wanted to "manually" do it!
what happens if i select "Quarentine"?
by the way, thanks for helping me everyone. |

| Quarantine i think means....The virus/corrupted file was detected, unable to deleted but its been disabled so it wouldn't cause anymore harm. |

CometCursor is a program that alters your mouse cursor to one of many skins. It's very much possible that you visited a site that wanted to alter the skin of your mouse, because the developer of the site set it that way. Quite annoying... hehe |

Another couple of pieces of software you should get that sometimes find stuff ad-aware doesn't:
* Spybot - Search & Destroy
* SpywareBlaster |
