Molson Centre + security is about 125 000$cdn.
This is the biggest expenses for this year but when you have big dj's, artists can be the biggest expenses.
A good party at Molson Centre should bring this kinda amount of people:
4000 x 50$ = 200 000$ (tickets sold * ticket price)
2000 x 75$ = 150 000$ (tickets sold * ticket price)
+ 25 000$ sponsors = 375 000$
If the venue + security (police) + DJ'S cost 200 000$, you can make good money.
50 000$ of production (sound + lighting + visuals).
25 000$ promotion
40 000$ all extras
This 315 000$ for a really good party so it's 60 000$ profit (this is 16% profits)and if you have 6500 people, there is 40 000$ extra again(this is 26.5% profits)!

In that thread, ZinG and Biggy said that sponsors are really important factors in the cost of a party. Here's an good example

BnH payed him 30 000$usd for each gig in Canada in May! (About Sasha..) |
Remember the Mauro Picotto, Derrick Carter and PvD nights (April 11-12-17) ?. If I remember correctly, they were all three sponsored by BnH (Benson and Hedges). The Tiesto-AvB-Ornadel night too and it was hard to miss the BnH cigarette girls inside the club :)
FYI, here's an interesting article about how the anti-event sponsorship law will also applies on this particular type of event.(http://www1.jointogether.org/sa/new...,566674,00.html)
About dj venues costs:
From KrinKer, Thread ID = 101789 (Apr-16-2003)| quote: |
i'll give u numbers i've heard
Remember those numbers are USD !!!
Tiesto = 25 000 $
Armin Van Buuren = 15 000 $
Paul Van Dyk = 30 000 $
John Digweed and Sasha ( their last delta heavy )= 45 000 $
Sasha = 25 000 $
Fat boy slim = 45 000 $
Carl Cox = 20 000 $ ( not sur about that ) |
But torontotrance had a wise comment here:

but deejays play on sliding scales....depends what is brought in for the club. If they know they play a big club and the club will be packed, then they ask for the usual. But certain deejays play longer for less and certain deejays play smaller venues for less. I mean sasha is playing revival in toronto on may 6th....there is no way, he is asking for his usual fee (tho dunno), playing a club to maybe 500 ppl at most. |
Don't forget water, energy drinks, alcool sales and sometimes food sales depending on the type of party. The profit margin for thoses sales is enormous.
A water bottle costs less than 15 cents. A Redbull costs less than 55 cents.
I don't know for which rave/events/clubs it applies and which it don't (and i don't want to know!) but we can't hide the fact that drug sale is sometimes/often organised/controlled/supervised by the rave/event promoter, club owner, etc.
For example, I heard that one of the biggest outside rave organised in the Toronto area take place on a property owned by motards. (Source: N/A)
On the other hand, for a rave/big event situation, I know that the police is asking for money to compensate the fact that more security and surveillance will have to be done near the rave/event area. (source: Fondation Rave Québec).
Medical teams are usually working for free. (http://www.ledevoir.com/2003/10/11/38197.html)
That should a good beginning for your research. :)
