It's possible.
You have to have effects patched under SEND instead of INSERT effects. Then, you enable your WRITE function and whenever you move the knob in the SEND area, the amount of effect taking place will change and be recorded.
To hear the change while playing the track, enable the READ function. |

im talking about editing the effect it self for e.g. select say a filter fx on a synth and record the filter been changed as u changes the slides and knobs in the filter software, when u play back it will play back the filter changing does that make sense?

Yeah man, of course you can. You just need to write enable that particular instrument/fx plugin. Hit record and start turning the parameter on the fx that you want to change. When you're done, that specific paramter should be in the automation drop box.

To alter that automation, click the W on the instrument. this should open up an automation channel for that instrument. Click on the paramaters drop menu and select the parameter you want to automate. This will open up the automation for that dial. You can then alter it if you want to.

Ive only got cubase 5.5 cause i dont like cubase sx cause everything has been moved on Cubase sx

Go to Cubase SX and everything you're trying to do will be rediculously simple! You can automate virtually anything in SX. Not the response you were looking for, but I haven't used VST 5.x in a loooong time.
