I don't have a Kyocera...but I do have a Sprint Touchpoint which is made by Qualcomm.
It is 3 years old, has all the features I need. Which, like stated in the quotes above, means it makes calls. The top row of LED's went really dim the other day and I was grumbling to myself that I would need to "upgrade" soon...but somehow it came back to life today and so I don;t have to get a new one (and no need for a contract either :D ). It is a good phone.....I just wish I would have bought a spare battery when I got it....Sprint doesn't even sell them online anymore.

one thing I don't understand and pardon my ignorance but why is the usa cell phone system so ed up ?
clearly people who have visited and lived in lets say europe will understand that the networks are much better over there.
Now as an unbiased / technically proven / fact driven comparision of qualities, pros and cons of the range of cell phone carriers out there I have yet to find one! Does anyone know of such a website? I'm considering getting a cell phone ... Right now I use an All Tell which isn't even mine and it's decent coverage + no roaming fees but still I dunno ... I need to get my own phone and cant find real answers |

I will address points in 3 parts :D
1. It is ed up because of competition and of the Constitutional limitations on Interstate Commerce which had to be resolved. (generally speaking)
2. The reason why networks are "better" in Europe has mainly to do with population density. The Continental US is roughly the size of all of Europe but there are many places that are virtually uninhabited. The states just east of the rocky mountains and the next row east from there (minus texas...nine total) have a combined area equivalent to that of the 4 largest countries in Europe (Ukraine, France, Spain, Sweden) yet have less than twice the population of Sweden and barely 1/10th the population of the four combined. (I am bored thus the figure finding lol)
3. I would go to the library and find a Consumer Reports issue dealing with cell phones. They tend to be unbiased and good information. They don;t let you access their articles online unless you pay so I always go to the library where it is free :D
Hope that cleared some stuff up....if not, sorry to watse your time lol.

Hey
how's it going man. I just started working for AT&T wireless this week here in AZ. I dont work for a corporate store, but for a large exclusive dealer called Global Mobile (formerly GSM Wireless). I am no at&T fan by any means. I and most of my coworkers use Verizon :D
Hit me up on AIM or something...i could use some advice to sell some of these phones. Seems like no one wants AT&T anymore. |

I guess it depends on what you're trying to do with it. The coverage, in many cases, is pretty crappy outside of the cities. The reason for that already been adequately addressed. But I've been far more pleased with the service in the US once I'm on the network.
With T-mobile, I have coverage everywhere I need it, plus massive data bandwidth for mobile internet browsing. Hell, it's faster than my cable modem ever was when all the kiddiez in the neighborhood went online at 9pm to share mp3s. (Damn those bastards, I had to switch to DSL).
Considering what you get in terms of cost in the US, it's still a decent deal. I had a service plan in Europe for six or seven months - and people bitch about the roaming charges in the US! You cross a border in Europe, and it's serious "bend over" time. Plus, cheap data access there is still not truly available.
With T-mobile in the US, I get the best of both worlds. Data access, good sound quality, and a GSM phone that I can pop the SIM chip out of and switch over to another if I ever travel. Plus, I can send SMSs across the GSM network, which is great.
Back to the original topic: phones. The jury is still out on my Nokia 3650. I'm not sure if I like it. I think it just takes getting used to. But I also have an Ericsson tri-band T39m that I use as a beater/travel phone. The thing has been through hell and back, and has given me no problems at all. |

lol so much anger.... i got a POS siemens phone, which is not cool or anything,b ut works fine |
i'm curious to know which siemens phone u have, because my experience with them has been great. Motorola sucks when it comes to phones...and Nokia lost it; I don't know what they're thinking with some of the designs. And I really dislike their software.
Siemens is by far one of the best manufacturers. The S55, ST55, SL55 and M55 are all great phones with awesome features, and the SX1, U10 and U15 definately look like they'll keep the Siemens standard as G3 comes into play in Europe. |

Stay away from Motorola 720i - the biggest piece of crap that I ever owned. Here's why:
1. The phone freezes up on me everyonce in a while
2. Animation is turned off, but icons are still animated and take forever to load
3. The menu response is the worst I've seen. Takes about 3-5 seconds before something happens
4. Bootup of the phone takes longer than my Windows XP running on a Pentium 1 - 75MHz with 16MB of RAM and stoned-hamster-powered power supply
5. The phone just shuts down for no apparent reason, right in the middle of important business cal. (No I didn't drop it or abused it in any way)
6. The ring volume is so low, even a SETI dish would not pick it up
7. The battery takes 8 hours to fully charge!
8. The power plug is useless if not inserted and jiggled like an old whore's nipples (ok, I wouldn't know that but I figure that's what it would be like) :D
9. The messaging on that phone is terrible!
10. Battery life is shorter than it takes to say "oops, my battery is dying!"
The worst celluar provider:
AT&T Wireless. terrible coverage on GSM or 1900 band, the worst customer service, bunch of crooks who rip you off and don't tell you about it.
Thanks for letting me vent. |
I have that phone and I've never had any of those problems. I like the phone. It works great for me and the battery lasts for days. |

| CynepMeH, i have AT&T paired with a siemens m56 and it works great. what area are u in, could be the lack of signal that causes glitches, also you should look into what OS version is running that cell. if anything take the damn thing back. |

isnt the system in the US still analog?i read once the reason why America still has Analog phone networks and still hasnt converted to the metric system etc.. and Farenhiet rather then celcius etc.. is due to it being such a massive job to convert a country so big, where as somewhere like here in Australia its tiny so was easy?
maybe im so wrong or i ddreamt that or something i dunno *sips drink* :gsmile: |
