Which Headphones Do I go with??? (pg. 2)

Thanks alot for this info Failsafe, I really needed to know this information. I dont have the Live bay set up with my audigy though, although I might look into just purchasing the drive bay unit by itself. thaks for this info, very informative for me and making my decision.
The point of me wanting such high quality headphones is because I use a computer a lot, and I listen to trance music and what not somtimes hours and hours in a day, and Being I listen to it so much, and love it, I want to get the best possible listning experiance I can. I currently use a $20 set of headphones that just doesnt have the uumpgh at all that I want to hear in my music. No im not really wanting to be a DJ, But I want some Quality listning, The best I can have, being large parts of my days are listning to music. |

| hmmm. Ive been reading about another set that I had previously not looked at, the Sony MDR-7506. Anyone know how well these stack up to HDJ1000's ? |

First of all, you'll have to upgrade your Audigy to something decent... maybe an M-Audio Revolution. Then, you reevaluate your ultimate maximum budget for the system. Is it enough to go for some quality headphones AND a headphone amplifier? Or just headphones? That sort of thing... THEN you need to rethink your NEEDS rather than asking "is X headphone better than Y or Z" a lot... think of what types of sound you need, what sorts of fit you want, where you will be using them, how you will be using them, what things you will pump through them, with what sources, etc. etc. etc... and THEN ask for advice... |

Well I just Rehooked up my Pioneer VSX-d308 Reciever to my computer, and will br running the headphones directly from the reaceiver. It uses the bigger headphone plug, and pushes my headphones ALOT harder. I can not even get the volume knob past about 40% without totally blowing out my current headphones. I was looking into some headphone amps, but I think this Pioneer reciever will push these headphones just fine, not to mention it also has Dobly Pro Logic, and DTS and a whole slew of other features on it, and Id say that going from the sound card, to the reciever, and then running the headphones from the reaciever, I gain atleast 300% more power than running the headphones from the soundcard by themselves.
And nah i wont be switching soundcards, as I am also a Gamer, and the audigy is surperior in this category. |

Than at least get an Audigy 2 ZS... the retail one, the least expensive one... it at least has acceptible sound quality... much better than the audigy 1... much better for games too... and better drivers...
BTW, Dolby Pro Logic is outdated (the latest is Pro Logic II...), since you are using a computer, you don't need it if you use a multimedia system... if you want surround sound with headphones, get the latest windvd or powerdvd and simply set it to use "Dolby Headphone" ... and set the reciever to stereo; don't have it do anything to change the sound, k? Do you own any home theater speakers, or anything for this reciever to drive? |

Yes I do, I have 2 Pioneer 15" Speakers that I ran off of it, I also ran 2 Optimus sattelite type speakers for the rears. However, I dont use this set up as I live in a condo, and have a neighbore Just through the wall, and these 2 15" can seriously bring the house down, knocking pictures off the wall, vibrating everything off of tables and etc...heh. I just hooked it up basically just to drive the headphones Im fixing to get, as I remebered how much power it use to deliver from the headphone jack. It is essientally a headphone Amp, atleast it pushes like it.
Also- in the reviews I have seen of the audigy 2, yes it is improved over the original audigy, however, the actual sound quality i dont think has been improved so much so. It merely added alot of new features. I dont see where my audigy has "poor" sound quality though. You got to remember, most of the music I listen to Is going to be Mp3 files...and mp3 files are limited to there bitrate and what not on how well they sound. |

Yep, the original Audigy does have "poor" sound quality, as far as playback of 16-bit/44.1kHz digital audio files is concerned. You see, its DSP re-samples everything to 16-bit and 48kHz sampling (but Creative doesn't even tell you this fact), and it uses a horrible interpolation alogarithm in doing such re-sampling. In the case of even regular MP3 playback, they sound even more harsh and gritty than they should have. Unfortunately, there is no way whatsoever around this sucktacular re-sampling with this particular Creative Audigy card -- its DSP is "hard-wired" to 16/48 (but your MP3s are mostly 16/32 or 16/44.1). |

| Im looking at just going with a headphone amp, im looking at a relatively cheap one - Rolls HA43 4 Output Stereo Headphone Amplifier - Its only about $50us, but I have seen nothing but positive remarks about it from ppl who have purchased it. Anyone have any experiance with this little headphone amp, or any other Rolls amp? |

There is a headphone sticky thread in the DJ Booth forum. If you look there, there's a ton of information there. I know it's a lot to go sifting through but how bad do you want peoples opinions right? At least there you'll get them without people complaining about how many threads there are on headphones.
I propose we start doing the +1 thing for headphone threads as well. |
