i dont think it was a raid per say. some bike cops decided to drop by
and check it out. they went in all commando with flashlights and poked about downstairs. i don't know if they questioned people (?), because some plp were obviously very high (a cop basically blinded some guy for like a min, who was sitting down, and the cop had his hand on his sidearm)...it was sort of a "uh oh" moment. nothing happened, but I suppose *sigh* its to be expected. |

Ok... I wanted to get out of my house for the night, so I needed somewhere to go.
Pulse Nightclub is was then. Line -up outside wasn't too bad.. took about 15 minutes to get in. I think they just held the line-up a little bit longer because they wanted to make it look like the club was packed, which it wasn't.
so here it is:
The Club itself:
Uhmmm not that attractive... upstairs is alright, but downstairs needs work!! The Sound System in there was too loud... could hardly hear what ppl were saying to me. The set-up is good, Dj booth is in a good spot. Bathrooms were ok... no complaints.
The DJ's
Saint Pete:
Good opening set hard for the most part.
Cosmic Gate:
Uhmmm sorry... I don't like these guys... hard epic cheese doesn't do it for me, although they did through in a couple of nice tech-trance so i wasn't totally disappointed. What I didn't like about there set is that it went absolutely no where. Every mix they did was short and they waited until the song was almost over before starting to mix the next song in, so the pause between each track was just plain open drums. Not good!
Wouldn't mind checking this place out on a regular night just so I can hear some of the Dj's there. Electric Fridays with I'm not sure downstairs, but Saint Pete and others are upstairs. Progress Saturdays with Hartec and others upstairs and Mark Scaife downstairs.
The good thing about this party as usuall... the TA's:

Yeah, I uber-suck. It didn't appear that too many were going - so I made other plans - and now I see the track list and hear the comments and I'm kicking myself in the ars for not being there. I'm even more cranky becuase I missed this and A&B.

I think that the whole night was great st pete was wicked
cosmic gate - good set - good plain trance
what more could a trance lover ask for. its not like toronto gets a trance party every day. |

Here I am with my review, after a weekend of no internet service.
The Club: Very good sound system- much clearer than System's, but bring ear plugs- rather loud. Ground floor level has green lasers, upstairs has none. Don't purchase a drink at the main floor's bar, and expect to travel upstairs with it- the stairwell is one of those 'no alcohol' zones, so we had to wait downstairs til we finished our drinks. Decor is simple, spacious bathrooms, lots of chill out space on 2nd floor. Large screen projection on main floor showing upper level DJ's. 2nd floor warmed up a bit, cooler downstairs, and when we left at 5am, found a fair amount of people dancing downstairs in front of the big screen with the music filtered downstairs, cuz Mark Scaife had left early.
The crowd- yes, it felt like a mini-Viva, but not nearly as bad, and the 19+ crowd helps. No floor huggers, not too cracky. A lot more TA's there than I expected, we had a nice group.
Cosmic Gate- Spun well, very good at working the crowd, but musically, I was a bit disappointed. Started off really well, but then got to be a little too commercial. Really expected to hear fresh, new trance releases hot off the presses in Europe, but there wasn't much of that at all. "As the Rush Comes"...:whip: Other tunes I can say were played (off the tip of my mind): Traffic, Beautiful Things (Photon Project mix), and Fire Wire. I know I'm missing many others. Glad I finally saw them, at least.
The cops: Went to meet Graham outside the mens room, when 4 bike cops, still wearing their helmuts & black neoprene face masks walked out, with Wurm & Graham. Wurm had a distressed look on his face, Graham was laughing. Turns out, they 'raided' the bathrooms, hands on guns, kicking doors in. Even made Graham get down on his knees with his hands on his head!! All he could do was laugh, cuz it reminded him of being home in N. Ireland, getting harrassed by the British cops. Cops left without incident. Bizzarre.....
Shout outs to Jenna Rae, Schryer, Dallastar, TimeToBurn, j-spot, Wurm & Angela, SgtFoo, Speedy2k, ill, petiscool, Walter Mindz, Kevin Earth, Obe, E-motion, & a few more whose names I'm forgetting. (sorry)

I will tell you why, it is the single worst sound system I have heard in the city..ugh... way too loud, with no highs and no lows..trust me, minus cosmic gate this place would be empty...everyone was complaining about the sound system, if you can't buy a phazon, at least do up the club... if you are going to open a new club in the city to compete with system, or the guv..whatever..you need to do something special... this place was not special...I was forced to wait outside with a group of 4 girls for 45 min in the cold, and there was NOBODY inside..they were going to the cosmetic lineup... the downstairs had doors opening to back rooms with ladders and crap lying about etc etc... it felt ugly in there... the one good thing is the staff was friendly once inside and the free drink ticket was nice! it isn't that hard to do up a place nice, put some thought into it to make it unique... they looked like they were onto someting with the nice flyers, the great dj lineup and website... the club did not live up to expectations...
that said I really enjoyed the opening set for cosmic gate and cosmic gate really seemed up for it... fun uplifting trance and their mixing was spot on... |
