Proof the top 100 list is nothing but popularity... sample inside

I've just recorded a sample from an old tape, DJ Sy, who didn't make the top 250, scratching over the top of a sample. I also soon have samples from dj's who you lot mainly won't know, but who are equally as talented.

This is not me saying trance sucks or anything, but with the exception of DJs like Eddie Halliwell etc, there is a lack of tricks done, and a lot of dj's like tiesto just mix tracks, simple 4/4 beats, it's not 'that' hard, a lot of people can do it & we know that. This is just to show that as much as we love our Trance DJs, there are plenty of talented DJs in other styles who don't get the recognition their talents deserve and even the most die-hard tiesto, armin, pvd fan or of most of the DJ's in the top 50, please just listen to this sample & enjoy it, it's an old skool tune in 64kbps so it's only a short dl

Enjoy

Ian

Whats so good about that?? I know load of kids that use that scrath record.. Its the easiest thing in the world to scratch with. Even i can do it with that and without putting myself down too much I have trouble scratching my own arse...

BTW is that an old Micky Finn tune?? Im sure I have that on an old Amnesia house tape...

can't remember the name of the tune. that's only like an example though. Techno DJ's are so much better imo, sure the style is different, but sometimes I get the impression that some dj's want to turn up, semi-mix and collect their money, and the people deserve it so much more.

I've been discussing since this post with mikey_mike and I guess this might come across of me slagging, but I love it when DJ's seem to do something than just mix, some sets seem to go nowhere and it's a shame, when some dj's can work a crowd into a frenzy

Honestly, mixing is not as easy as it sounds. And for proof, you think after all these years Oakey and Tiesto would be throwing down flawless mixing night after night. ;)

mixing is easy, programming on the other hand is not.

I also guess, I mean I know how hard it must be with travelling, but if they're not upto it then they shouldn't do it as often, have some breaks. Some of the best dj's ever, and i mean Sasha, Carl Cox, Westbam, Sy, Hype, Scorpio/Producer, Nicky Blackmarket, Mark EG etc, ones who've been doing it for so long, and still entertain. You don't see too many people complaining after their sets.

Maybe we expect too much, but as I said, I love trance, but that 100 list etc is obviously false, ability wise, maybe needs to be renamed, the 100 most popular dj's or something, not the 'best' :)

I am not going to start a flame war about this...so i will post once about this.

First - I do not think Tiesto should have won...just wanted to make that clear, since most people know i like him.

Second - 95% of the people on TA KNOW that the dj list is a popularity contest....you are not pointing out anything new. It has as much validity for the skills of a DJ, as the Noble Peace prize does to the staff of ER. Anyone who reads, as much, into as some people seem to is plain and simply bitter about the results. Does it really matter?

Now i know these same people will say the list sends off the message that someone like Tiesto is in fact the best DJ in the world to people outside the realm of TA, or anyone who is not in the know of the scene. So in that case, again, who cares?..What is the difference if Tiesto is number 1 or PVD is number 1?...Makes no difference to me.....

The only difference it can make is to the DJ...of course because his value goes up...

But again the majority of people know the list is a joke...it has no validity, it is based purely on fan votes, hence popularity contest. So i am not sure why this is such a big deal to some people......It is no more then little girls fighting over who's better - Backstreet Boys or N*SYNC.....

I say let it go....no one really cares....except of course the little n00bs who just started listening to the music and can claim they listen to the number 1,2 or 3 DJ in the world...but for people like TAs to be bickering over something that we know is a joke to begin with makes no sence...

Oakey?? Flawless?? Thats possibly the funniest thing ive ever read!! Oakey is a woeful Dj technicly. Ive never seen Oakey do a full set without at least three of four horsey moments...

Different mixing styles require differnt skills. I dont care what anyone says but the Djs at the top all have skills that make them individual, Sasha, Digweed and even Tiesto are all smooth and flawless and know how to blend tunes perfectly(regaurdless of what people say to do it as well as they can takes great skill). That in itself is a talent. Then you get Djs like Dave Clarke, Hawtin and Beyer who use technoligy and clever tricks which again is a great talent..

People need to stop going on abour what is better and just apreciate Djs for what they offer. If its not your thing fair enough but you still cant say a Dj is talentless because their idea of mixing is different from yours...

not to beat a dead horse here ...

but your right about mixing not being easy, and the best DJs in the world still screwing up once and awhile

did anyone else hear Tiesto getting booed at GC@NEC? lol
he had a little slippage, although nothing compared to the trainwreck of PvD :stongue:

im not bashing either of them, but its just like NBA players missing free throws. even the best are never perfect :toocool: just gotta love the music and appreciate the good sets that are laid down by ANYONE, not just the supposed top 10 of the world.

love the music!!!
