Your definition of "a few extra bucks" must be different than mine, because the price difference between the Behringer DJX-700 and the Pioneer DJM-600 is typically around $800 ($200 vs $1000). The cheapest I've seen a secondhand Pioneer for is $600, which is still substantially more than the Behringer. The Behringer and the Pioneer are intended for totally different audiences--for someone who's just starting out and/or doesn't have a lot of money, it's pretty hard to beat the Behringer's bang for the buck.
As for the Gemini Fx7000, I haven't tried it out either, so I won't give you any advice about something I know nothing about. ;) |

my first mixer was a Behringer VMX300, I'm currently using a Pioneer DJM3000 (the 19" version of the 600).
my vmx300 is solid and is still in 100% working order. all the knobs and faders are pure quality, although the bpm sucks ass but that doesnt matter cause I never intended on using it anyway (and neither should you! :o )
anyways, I was at big music gear store in DJ section a few weeks ago and was playing around with the new merchandise. I played around with the DJX700 for about 10 minutes. Its layout is almost exactly like the Pioneer DJM600's (which is a good thing, very efficient layout). the faders and knobs are all very smooth and feel like they'll last. the outputs are RCA-unbalanced only, theres no XLR-balanced, but that shouldnt matter to you since you intend to use it in your home. as for the onboard effects, I'll say it flat out, they suck ass. The interface to use them couldnt be more confusing, (each effect is assigned its own number, its wierd), as well, when I finally got almost every DJ's favorite effect to work (flanger), it was weak, created a lot of noise, and was pretty damn useless. The effects suck on this machine. but that doesnt really matter considering the price of this thing, what do you expect
if you *need* a 4 channel mixer for home use and your on a tight budget, then the Behringer DJX700 is the way to go. However, I see no point... The only differences between the the VMX300 and the DJX700 pretty much is that the DJX has an extra channel and a crappy effects system, not to mention the VMX is a lot cheaper.
If you are planning on ever hooking up more than just 2 turntables (you may wanna add CD players) then a 3 channel mixer such as the VMX300 will do just fine. Allthough the VMX300 is called a 3 channel mixer, it really has 6 channels. There is a phono input on each of the three channels which is used to hook up turntables with. Aswell, there is a Line input on each of the three channels which is used to hook up CD players. So you can share a CD player and a turntable on each channel without having them conflict. All you have to do to switch a channel from CD to turntable or vice versa is flip the "Line/Phono" switch at the top of the mixer of the corresponding channel.
bottom line: beginner DJs should go for the cheap, solid, VMX300

| behringer sucks. you can get a numark or ecler or tascam or vestax for the same price. granted they're only 2 channel but they'll actually sound good and be built well. cheers. |

| I was going to get a DJX700, but I went with a (very slightly) used Stanton 2k SF (or something like that) instead... I actually should be getting it today or tomarrow :) Seems to me that while a lot of people are okay with the DJX, I'd rather have quality, as I don't need 4 channels right now, nor do I need fx that don't work anyway. Plus it was only $150 (retail is $300)... Ebay rocks, as long as you buy from people with good feedback. |
