Will Commercial Recognition Hinder Our Fav. Anthems Becoming 'Timeless'? ie : ATRC

i bought motorcycle - as the rush come today in my local record store and was thinkin to myself, will this awesome tune become wot tomcraft - lonliness became last year?

it seems to me,this tune, which we all have to admit is a masterpiece, will just be shrugged off as just another tune to become a commercial sell-out and so will be forgotten months later.

i seriously hope this doesnt happen.

in 2-3 months time i can just imagine this being played on MTV and the Box etc and so its legacy will never be as poignent and special as it is now or when it first surfaced months ago.

i want this tune to remain one of those where u can look back and think, god, that will always be in my all time favourites, and when/if this goes commercial,it dont think people will have the same appreciation of this wonderful tune.

although i want G&D's talent to become more recognised,i hope this isnt the way itll happen.

to me,ATRC will always remain timeless.i hope others will think so to...

wot are your thoughts on this in general?

thanx for listening guys...

How does a song's exposure change the way you see that song... when it still remains the same! Stop worrying about who else is listening to your music and just enjoy it!

I don't know but there are alot of people, especially on this board, who have this train of thought. Then there's always those few who don't like the artist, song or whatever and they magically corral a herd of sheep into not like the song.

Actually, there are a fair number of people who don't think it is a masterpiece & never have done :)

ATRC will be played out on mtv and radio in no time. It already has been canned to death on NYC radio stations. IMO the song is pure cheese. :o

And of course, this only applies to ATRC and no other trance classics, right? (not saying that ATRC is a classic btw)

well more people have jumped on the ATRC bandwagon than southern sun which was really good and ligaya which was average-semi good. Seems it's almost a crime to admit to not liking it, but I feel it's so overplayed and such

There's so many opinions on this song, some people like and some people don't, but that's life, people are entitled to their own opinion and if u like something u do and if u dont u dont.

The fact that a certain song starts being played on radio or on certain dance music stations doesnt change the song, and certainly shouldn't change you own opinion on the song, the fact that trance is getting more exposure through more and more means should be a good fact that we all celebrate so more people are able to listen to the music that we all love and enjoy, we shouldnt be so elitist to assume just because people who don't use the internet and therefor don't have the ability to hear the abundance of songs that we are able to listen to should suddenly make the song less good than it originally was.

I agree that Motorcycle is, was and will be overplayed even more than it already has been, but at the end of the day, DJs play songs because they know the crowd want to hear them, if they knew the crowd didnt enjoy motorcycle then they wouldn't play it anymore, its the same with any song, its just the fact that Motorcycle has been hyped so much and the word "classic" been thrown around so much that people are deciding that the song is becoming too commercialised.

At the end of the day what I am trying to say is that if you like a song you do, if u don't u don't and thats all there is to it. The more exposure that TRUE trance such as Motorcycle as opposed to acts such as "ultrabeat" and "flip n fill" get is much better for the genre as a whole and can only benefit everyone involved.
