Breaks

So, what you guys think about the ever growing breaks scene?

I went out tonight completely forgetting that Freq Nasty was playing. Arrived in time for his set and had quite a good time.

He played very funky / party breaks, and you pretty much cant help NOT to dance to that stuff. Crowd was loving it, but i lost momentum very quickly.

I could recognise about half his tracks (not names though) so it was pretty mainstream breaks I guess, since i dont know a lot about them.

I also found that they seemed to all sound the same after a while. Haha, only really so much you can do with breaks, and the sound doesnt seem like its changed much since breaks started becoming popular.

So I guess I'm more for the techier / deeper type of breaks, but not on thier own, moreso incorporated into a prog set, which adds to the diversity of a prog set, something I will dance to all night.

Yer, anyway, thought Id have a rant instead of going to bed.

Be interesting to see what the more trancey ppl on here tihnk about them, as I tihnk most prog guys like them at least a little.

Personally I think Breaks + Trance are going to become one .. alot of new tracks i've received promo copies of are very break beat during the breakdowns, but with trance riffs and some 4/4 during the main sections..

new sets from the "leaders" in trance (i haven't heard a tiesto/armin trance set lately, so i can't comment on their style) but the rest are heading down to breaks / trance mixes..

even drum n bass has a new sub genre called "trance n bass" ..

solarstone are also a breaks/trance producer something else which points to breaks / trance combining soon ...

the purists / chin strokers will still say "thats trance, not breaks" or "thats breaks not trance" .. but i feel that it will be exactly the same at the end of the day :)

ok, enough dribble from me ..

breaks here and there are cool, but a whole set of breaks is a bit much

i totally agree. breaks is best enjoyed in moderation (moderation = 3 songs per night).

i had the awful misfortune of hearing leroy from the prodigy spin 90 mins of broken beats. it was almost impossible to bear but the 3 good tracks he did play was almost worth sparing his life. almost.

breaks and drum 'n' bass suck the wang.
Teknoscaper.
Trancey breaks have been around for a while Huey?

Breaks are alright, but I generally prefer them in the bedroom to the club. Depends on what sort of breaks you're talking about though: prog-breaks make good headphone music whereas nu-school breaks make good driving music (I've got two Plump DJs CDs and one DJ Hyper CD in my car as we speak). In a club environment, though, I just find them too hard to dance to.

Breaks tune of the moment:

God Within - Raincry (Vance Musgrove Mix)

I don't mind breaks, but it needs to be good breaks, none of this deep chin-stroking BS. And not for too long either, I can't listen to breaks for much more than an hour or so....

I big up this tune though:
Underworld - Cowgirl (Atomic Hooligan Mix)
Wasted_Space
yup, liking the breaks.

just resurrecting this thread due to last night....

DJ HYPER.

man, without doubt the best breaks set ive heard!

the dirty funked up bass (something which trance will never have :( ) was insane

unlike my old post about freq nasty ^^^ i was able to be on the floor for the whole of his set, plus be totally into the other 5 hours of supporting breaks (and im not even drinking alcohol atm :D).

this guy is so worth seeing, i think perth has him on friday; make sure u check him out; be converted to the broken side of music :D

and the guy himself is a champ :)

I like breaks, in fact breaks was the first 'dance' music that I got into and that got me into the scene.

I am desperately waiting for FatBOy Slim to come back (it's been 3 years), I love his break/big beats style.

I LOVE Plump DJ's, they just go off!
Ghostface
He's playing in hobart on thursday so looks like friday will be a fun day of travelling to get to his perth gig.
