unfortunately that will never be true

but of course it is great that survival rates and quality of life with cancer are improving

and why couldn't that be true? as far as i know if reaserch in gene technology comes far enough cancer will not be a problem!

You never know...it could very well become true.

Telling someone today "there's going to be a cure for cancer" is something like telling someone in the 50's about cellphones. In both cases people would have thought u to be crazy but the technology did come about.

its because cancer is an ever evolving and changing phenomenon that can effect every different cell type in the body in different ways, hence the huge variety of different cancers

the causes of many cancers are still unknown and even if we do know the cause of a specific cancer i.e. a mutation in a particluar gene product, we cannot know how this interacts with all the other proteins and processes in the body to eventually produce a cancerous cell

sorry im a scientist by the way
obviously im not saying that in a 1000 years there might not be a "cure" for some cancers, but there is a huge difference between curing cancers (due to the nature of cancer) and curing other diseases

also the lack of humans to investigate what happens in cancer (ethical reasons, obviously u cant do tests on humans very easily)
and the animal models we use to discover more about cancer are not identical to humans
oh yeah, and research in gene technology is not really gonna make a difference to cancer because it is being discovered that gene replacement therapies (where a bad gene is replaced by a working version of this gene) are not gonna be very viable and unlikely to occur in humans

this may of course all change in the future, but definitely not the immediate future, your looking a long way ahead

etc.
sorry if u dont wanna read this , i'll stop now

Sorry to hear about everyone's families. I didn't realise cancer is so common, it really makes you appreciate what you've got when you hear people's stories.

I hope all goes well for your pa, Vivid.

Great news dude! :)

Unfortunately however, too many lives are lost to cancer :(

thnk u too everyone...yeah ive been happier today then i have been in the last month or so.....well the thing abt cancer is that its always been a #! killer and it always will be...well now i got 2 parents who will most likely have to go for testing every 6 months... but the thing abt cancer is catching it early..if yu can ctach it early its way better then catching it late..my father was lucky he had noticed these dementations on his skin for a year and a half but never went to go get them check because he has an old school frame of mind...he got really freakin lucky considering the type of cancer it is....but its not all over yet theres still alot of testing he has to do....it may have spread so u never know...and to anyone who has cancer strucken family member, my best advice is to keep a positive frame of mind...and plan for the future....
