I know this question has been posted here before but I couldn't find it - so please don't give me a hard time for posting the question again. What software is the best to record with on your computer? (Hopefully, it will be free). So if anyone could give me any info, I would appreciate it. Thanks

Cubase works very good for my needs. Although I do have a direct X plugin called Izotope Ozone 2 that masters it afterwards. Sounds pretty damn good after all of it imo. plus it is not hard to figure out.

its free if you know where to look but you should always support your software company.

I use Soundforge 6.0, and it works extremely good for my needs.. And I got it off of a friend of mine.

Total Recorder does a good job, doesn't do anything but record, but it works well.

is the quality of recordings with total recorder good? Does it record in wave?
teo
just get sound forge..u will find it pretty easy and it does the job
Localsky

it worked fine, but how was the sound quality as compared to cds. When I had it the final product sounded flat, extremely flat. I am not sure if you can use direct x plugins with it but if you can use izotope ozone with it you would be set. As I remember this program was made to be simple, and simple it was. Just point to where the input is and record.

i use 'harddiskogg'... records directly to ogg, good enough for me
