i just got a car that came with xm radio, i haven't activated it yet.

I checked the xm website but it seems like they play a lot of random things, with no specific genres looks like sirius is better except sirius will probably die soon from lack of exposure

Eh...the way that I'm hearing things, it might be the other way around. A guy that I work with at Best Buy, he tells me that for every XM radio that he sells, he sells about 15 Sirius radios. Plus Sirius's stock has been pretty damn good, as of late. He assured me (cuz i just bought a sirius for my car about 6 months ago) that the company is here to stay.

I think both will be around for a while, especially since each of them have their own groups of dedicated customers. XM has the exclusive contracts with roughly half of the automakers, Sirius has the other half. XM also now broadcasts weather data to special marine and aviation terminals.

In terms of the consumer market, I think XM will win out. They made a marketing decision to keep their rates below Sirius' rates, and have also put more development into their receiver line.

I understand on the XM dance channels there are a few regularly scheduled trance shows, and the same holds true for Sirius. I just checked the DJ's and the playlists though - I've never heard of most of the DJ's, and a lot of the trance stuff is either the very commericial stuff or very old.

The only real benefit I see to the XM/Sirius services is that you can get audio from some of the cable news networks while you move. I care about two things - news and music - so the fact that FOX News or CNN can be heard while mobile is a big benefit.

But for music...I think you can do a lot better with Shoutcast stations on the net. Just burn livesets to CD, or get an MP3 player to use in the car.

I've got an MP3-cd player in the car, I just throw a bunch of tunes on there and that pretty much acts as a radio.

I can't stand the commercial regular radio nowadays...most of it's crap and even in the event that there's a tune I like, I end up hearing it so many times I begin to hate it. Plus commercials annoy me.

The idea of satellite radio sounds good but I dunno if it's worth the money exactly to buy the receiver unit and then pay for it each month.

There's a LOT of big electronic music names on Sirius that I have NEVER seen on XM: PvD, Ferry, Armin van Buuren, Digweed, BT, Tiesto, and a bunch of one hit wonder tracks. With XM, i haven't seen a damn thing from them to impress me at all.
Orbax
hehe I always use the XM radio at best buy (i work there) i think 86 or 84 is the station where they place that...they took it away a month ago i why I cant remember it. Ive heard most of the DJs on it so far.

You gotta have Sirius there, don't you Orbax? You should check out Planet Dance and The Vortex on that. It's all that I listen to, pretty much. The Beat gives you your mainstream music remixes and your occasional good trance track.

I know hybrid did a couple of exclusive mixes for xm recently...

xm comes on cars, sirius doesnt
and most people don't care enough about music to go to stores to buy sat radio, all they want to listen is top 20
or their rock station top 20
or oldies depending on age

Well, actually, Paul van Dyk had an exclusive mix on one of Sirius' Dance stations last night. Wasn't too bad.

Somebody has to say it: XM has the superior name, Sirius just sucks!!! Therefore, it will win! (see shoes chillout thread)
