Back in the day the essential mix on radio one used to have some really good sets. Seems like all they do now is house...what caused the sudden switch?
Other then AVB on back last febuary, i haven't heard any trance out of the essential mix in 2003!
crappy.. |

| The EM was never any good for trance, it's just that back in the day a large amount of the regulars (Oakey, Tong, Cox, Fontaine etc.) played trance records in their sets. That's not the case anymore, and R1 has also gotten a lot of heat for not bringing in enuff new talent, so they've decided to do something about that. I know PvD is having an EM in a week or so, but if you're looking for trance live shows I suggest you look somewhere else, since even the odd bigshot trance DJ-EM is rare nowadays. |

There are more than enough trance sets being played around
in radio stations. Besides, you can hear armin every thursday if you want. And every 3rd trance dj sound like each other (no offense).
I love trance, but there's more than enough of it on the radio. Also, maybe BBC are trying to get more listeners by inviting more house djs?
I mean, there's always an anti-trance person besides you, wherever you are.
I don't know.....
Let's just listen to ASOT tonight anyway.
Pure cheesy trance :D (joke) |

| Armin's was probably the most boring EM I heard in 2003. Check out the Gabriel and Dresden, Ashley Caselle, Moshic, Sander K, Adam Freeland, DJ Marky, High Contrast EMs from this year. |

I agree, i used to check Radio1 every couple of weeks or more often just to see who was on the EM, but now its nobody. They only have trance djs during the big parties like creamfields or WMC. I want to hear another studio mix from our beloved djs.
And i also agree with the fact that Armins was NOTHING special. Just a set. BUt Gabriel and Dresden, check that ouT! |

I agree. There's too much similarity in what trance DJs are playing these days. I also think part of the problem is that fewer people like the uplifting stuff churned out today than the trance of Oakenfold's time. I sure as hell get bored of it fast.
...though not as fast as I get bored of house. :p |

| Because people are getting sick of the same trance formula in the last couple of years |

| Eddie Halliwell's is the only EM i have enjoyed this year. That was obviously a liveset rather than a studio set. I find studio sets boring. There's no interaction, and therefore I find them rather . There have been very few EM's i have enjoyed, especially in recent years. |

that's probably the problem, less big-name djs doing EMs, so they're not as hyped
i also think djs should play more unknown promos than the same big-name tracks everyone else is milking to death. |

Nah, Essential Mix was always different genres, different deejays and that was the appeal to people. It may suck for true trance fans but music fans like me, it's great. Nice to see some lesser known names do the essential mixes.
I liked Adam Freeland, Plump DJ's, Lee Coombs, and Creamfields |

all those artist you pointed out there are boring to me. So clearly that`s just a personal opinion. I find those set to stale and slow for my tastes |
