| I wasn't really feeling the first hour of Holden's set so I kept going back n forth between the main room and the breaks room. But half way into his set Holden picked up the pace and I couldn't stop dancing. Deko-ze came on after him and took the party to another level. No surprise there... TOTA owned Systems yet again. :) All-round awesome night. Marco V tonite!! wooohooooooo.... |

to tired to read whats above so my opinion is maybe something that someone else pointed out:
holden's set was very well done; of course all of us who went to see him (i should think so anyway), love his sets when they turn into 'melodic progressive' the sound he is so famous for, nothing really needs to be said about that part of his set because he always does an absolutely amazing job in picking the right tracks at that phaze of his set
What i thought was odd and more importantly less enjoyable was that he warmed up for too long with prog/deep house in relation to how much time he spent with all (i assume at least most if not all) our favourite part - the 'melodic progressive' holden sound which he tucked at about the last 3rd of his set.
Now don't get me wrong, prog/deep house is great and has its place. I liked it and all. But it's still a lot less satisfying then his 'progressive melodic' sound your anticipating. Thus the first 2 hours were spent while enjoying the prog/deep house (for me at least) torturously in huge anticaption for my favourite part - the part he makes everything so deliciously melodic. This in itself need not neccessarily be bad, because if you're chasing the prize for that much longer, then when you finally get it, it's that much sweater. So with this I expected that when the best part of his set started (last 3rd) that it would go for a long time, certianly significantly longer then his first part. But it didn't!! It went what around half the time he took to build up.
Based on the fact that he warmed us up for 2 hours torturing us in anticipation for our favourite part and based on the fact that when the dj in line after him took over Holden had a sort of surprised look on his face, i think its quite possible that Holden thought he would be spinning longer then he did (maybe no one told him someone would spin after him/some sort of miscommunication, these kind of things do happen, rarely, but they do).
That's the only explantion on why he would warm up so long and give us relatively little of our favourite part. Or the alternative explantion is that he was so into his set, and we all know that Holden really gets into his sets, that he lost track of time.
In either case I think (maybe i'm being too generous) its a relatively innocent mistake, who's ever fault it was, as long as it doesn't happen again for a long long time!
If this is the case, I 'forgive' holden cause happens, and after all he did give us a mammoth dose of the 'melodic progressive' we love most when he was at koolhouse last time with not much warming up.
Essentially, a very good set (hello its holden?!) with the only problem being that the dosage of the best part was way too little!
I'll die if he tortures me like this again! Haha, you get my point.
BTW, question, can anyone ID the first track holden played when his set started to get bangin' - you know the first amazing 'prog melodic' track played. Its the one that has just 2 delicious different sequences of whistling/flute-is sounds repeating over and over with of course good percussion in the background. This track is so amazing arggh!! I've heard it before but I coudln't ID it. I'll be eternally greatful if someone ID's it. |
