How Much Money Does A Trance Producer Make From Records?

| how much money would an average trance producer make from record sales from 1 record? I know that an artist gets 1.66 from an album which aint much, and as trance is a more underground sound and we're talking about singles not albums it can't be much all, does anyone know? |

It all depends if:
1. Its a full studio album or a mix disc
2. They own their own label (a lot of them do)
3. If its a big or small label
4. Copyright issues on sampling and/or licensed tracks on a mix disc..
As for the real #'s... no clue, although I do think its larger than on a % basis than mainstream artists (i.e. Britney).. |

I got the following info from Mixmag, maybe not exactly what you wanted to know, but interesting nontheless:
Take sonique for instance: she's sold 2,000,000 and 2,000,000 albums. This may not make her a million, but the knock on effect could.
An artist only makes around 20-30p per single (£4-600,000, in her case). The real money-makin is from licensing the track to compliations. With inclusions on several compilations, end-of-year CD`s and even the "NOW!" series, the amount made would depend on whether you wrote the track. If everything falls into place you could be a millionaire with 2,000,000 single sales.
Often the artist will recieve a tiny advance from after a label licenses their record. ATB recieved a four-figure advance when Ministry of Sound picked up his 1999 worldwide hit "9pm (Til I Come)". It went on to sell 900,000 copies and producer Andre Tannenberger recieved his first royalty cheque for £600,000 - one of the biggest in dance music history. And that's before the track got onto compilations.
DJ-mixed albums are a different matter. A star DJ could get a £10,000 advance from a big label. Large sales (say 400,000) and royalties would earn them £45,000. Add that cash to remix revenue - andything from £2,000 a pop for a small-but-up-and-coming fish like Plump DJs to £50,000 for Morales and Oakenfold - and you'll soon be wallpapering your front room with the folding stuff.
