What's with the rock guys bashing DJs?

Recently heard the song by Jet called Rollover DJ. Lyrics such as "roll over DJ", "you're playin' other peoples songs", and "you've got nothing to say".
I also recently saw an Aussie movie called Garage Days which had a lot of the same hostile towards DJs vibe in it.
What's goin' on? Do they think they're the only ones who have a right to be performing? Maybe Jet are saying that just the bad DJs should get off the stage? I don't know...
Is it jealousy?
Maybe the rock guys think if you can't sing, and don't play any conventional instruments, then you shouldn't be trying to create music?
Dunno about you but there seems to be a nasty vibe surfacing. Or maybe it's just a little healthy rivalry?
Anyone noticed any of this? |

| Makes since how they would say that playing instruments but they're still wrong...as far as I care, their opinion on DJ'ing and dance music means nothing to mean cuz they're obviously not into that music and therefore don't understand it. |

People who contend that electronic music producers don't use "real instruments" are ing idiots.
Ignorance is bliss. |

I would actually agree to an extent. Basically DJ's are just human jukeboxes... we seem to glorify them way too much just because they can mix 2 tunes together.
It's also got something to do with the fact that rockers can't like electronic music and vice versa because it has always been so. Frankly I don't really understand why since I enjoy rock music as much as trance/any other edm genre.
Some people are just so inbred that I wouldn't really pay any attention to them. Let us do what we like and let them do what they like. |

That is of course a different matter altogether. |

some rock bands have their own DJ...
and all they do is stand behind a turntable and nod their head to the music and pretend they are turning EQ knobs... but for some reason the mass idiot public seems to think that those DJ's are like hardcore... *limp bizkit* *cough* *cough* |

Reminds me of DJ Isaac's Nobody listens to techno (its a white label version of Eminem's without me)
DJ Isaac - Nobody Listens To Techno
BAse Attack - Nobody listens to techno
Son Of A Gun Feat. Kid Panic - Everybody listens to techno
LOL! what a weird theory. |

I always thought that DJ Lethal from Limp Bizkit did a great job at turntabling and sampling etc. on the 3 dollar bill y'alls cd. IMO that cd was a great cd because of the work that he did.
When they (Fred Durst) decided to tone down DJ Lethal in their music there sound changed dramatically to a more cleaner and refined sound (mass media type of sound). DJ's I think can define the type of sound from a rock band which is adding to all this rapcore nu metal bands coming out nowadays. Like when Beastie Boys brought in Mix Master Mike he totally changed the type of sound of the Beasties. Same with Sid from Slipknot from their Slipknot cd to Iowa, when they tone him down it changes the sound dramatically.
Even most of those DJs that we think just sit there and nod their heads to the music usually are contributing more than we think to the "sound" of the cd. I think this has happened to Limp Bizkit, Beastie Boys, Slipknot and a lot of other ones i can't think of right now. I like it when bands have a DJ because they add so muchto the songs and it downplays the music from being big popular hits because usually people don't seem to like all the scratching and sampling that they do. I duno really how true that is but it just seems that way with how limp bizkit and slipknot took away so much of the dj work in their music. But then again their still a lot different than the DJ's that those songs are talking about, because i do agree with what Mr. Mystery said that a lot of djs are just jukeboxes that mix the hits together into one Totally HIT!!! song, i hate that.
What makes me mad at those stupid songs though is how they don't understand that the good DJ's arn't just throwing a bunch of hits together, in most cases there doin just the opposite. Instead they focus more on the flow of their sets and the vibe the set gives off. This can create a whole different type of sound out of tracks that if you heard by themself, would sound much more bland. This is why its called trance, because it takes you on a "journey" through an assortment of tracks that are put together to create a distinct feel.
I duno why i wrote so much on that... wierd... |
