Dna tests supposedly proved that it was him.

I think it's obviously him, but the timing is a bit suspect.

Let's just put it this way: if this is a ploy, I wonder what will happen when the fake Saddam goes to trial...

actually the timing isn't that good for the presidential elections. People will forget all about it in a couple of weeks when there will be 20-30-40 more soldiers death in Iraq.

They should've got him a couple of days before election day *yes i'm being cynic*

If it makes people happy to think it isn't Saddam then that is their perogative, it doesn't change reality. Why would any body double put himself through that humiliation would be beyond me. It is ironic how many people who were against the war in Iraq haven't mentioned what this means for the Iraqis who lived under the thumb of this man for decades. It seems dislike of Bush and Co. runs deeper than genuine care for the symbolism of Husseins arrest to the Iraqis. Sure attacks won't stop but for those who asked where was Saddam well ask no more, Osama is next, all a matter of time. By the way on the subject of elections, one of the main factors the economy isn't doing too shabby either as of recent so lets not forget that.

Yeah, apart from the violence, the looting, the installation of the widely dispised Chalabi into a high administerial postion, the reinstallation of Baathist Party members into other administerial positions, the slowness in restoring essential services, the growing oppression of women in southern Iraq, the wholesale exclusion of women from the democratic process, the reconstruction effort paid for with Iraqi oil money, the cancellation of elections likely to install guys the US just don't like, the uncertain future and the 8000-10000 civilian deaths (not counting the troops that have died or those irreparibly maimed), I agree, life for the average Iraqi citizen is much better now that Saddam's gone. ;)

you mean "weapons of math instruction"...

At New York's Kennedy airport today, an individual later discovered to be a public school teacher was arrested trying to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a setsquare, a slide rule, and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General John Ashcroft said he believes the man is a member of the notorious al-gebra movement. He is being charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction.
"Al-gebra is a fearsome cult,", Ashcroft said. "They desire average solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in
search of absolute value. They use secret code names like "x" and "y" and refer to themselves as "unknowns", but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. "As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, there are 3 sides to every triangle," Ashcroft declared.
When asked to comment on the arrest, President Bush said, "If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, He would have given us more fingers and toes. "I am gratified that our government has given us a sine that it is intent on protracting us from these math-dogs who are willing to disintegrate us with calculus disregard. Murky statisticians love to inflict plane on every sphere of influence," the President said, adding: "Under the circumferences, we must differentiate their root, make our point, and draw the line."
President Bush warned, "These weapons of math instruction have the potential to decimal everything in their math on a scalene never before see unless we become exponents of a Higher Power and begin to factor-in random facts of vertex."
Attorney General Ashcroft said, "As our Great Leader would say, read my ellipse. Here is one principle he is uncertainty of: though they continue to multiply, their days are numbered as the hypotenuse tightens around their necks."
