easily the best this year was dave seaman@space. Many other people played records well this year, no-one played a crowd like that.
no 2 was probably kleinenberg at two tribes.
most dissappointing was matt darey. Not worst set of the year by any means, but I expected a lot better.
most dissappointing event to miss this year? two stand out as shockers I can't believe I didn't get to.
#1 PVD in central park NYC. Flew in 3 hours before start time but had a 9 hour drive before starting work the next day, twas an afternoon gig, so decided to do the drive the same day. Ended up sitting at the customer's office the next day doing bugger all until atfer normal work finished, and reading how great the gig was.
#2. My dream gig, that i never thought would happen. Tiesto, an in my memory tour, outdoors, in capetown. The day i finished work there and Mrs tub arrived for a holiday, but we both had a flu. To make matters worse, the next morning at breakfast, someone came down to tell us all how he saw this dj, tiethsto last nigh (not a mis-spell, that's how he pronounced it, made us feel even worse) |

Number 1 - James Zabiela (for 6 hours i did not leave the dance floor ONCE not even to take a piss!!)
Number 2 - Armin 4 hours at gas! (talk about trance heaven)
Number 3 - Mark Dynamix @ sweetchilli's 2nd birthday (without a doubt the best progressive set ive heard from an australian dj and up there in my top 3 progressive sets ive ever heard!)
Other VERY notable mentions
- The first Halcyon (i think it was called altitude relaunched or sumtin) at gas (pure class from all involved and stays in my mind as an awesome night!)
- Dumonde @ Transmission
- Nick Warren @ gas (awesome set just how i like em)
- PVD (nuff said!)
- Oakie @ SOS (ended with CJ Bolland - The Prophet absoutley MADE my night!!!!)
- Diggs & Moroo & stama at Transmission live (playing to a near empty arena at the start of the night they had the dance floor packed by the time they finished!)
- Halcyon Cloud Nine (the best set ive heard from Sample Gee and one thats gonna be damn hard for him to top it was AWESOME - awesome sets from the other boys too!)
- Gwill Morris at Sweetchilli (awesome prog trance, which very much appealed to the small group of ta's that joined me in the front row!)
- Scott Oliver @ Reason in a warehouse (top notch tribal - absolutley superb! This boy is one to watch!!)
- Mark Dynamix 3 hour Breaks set @ Sweetchilli (is there anything Mark cant play to perfection??)
- Danny Howells @ SOS (how much fun was this set?! great fun!)
- James Holden & Steve Gerrard @ sweetchilli (any pair of djs that can become the most ed people in the club and still play 2 of the best sets ive heard get my respects BIG time!)
- Mark Dynamix with Steve Sax @ SOS (it was pissing down rain and Mark started the set with Eurythmics - Here comes the rain again, just got the party started perfectly!)
- Robbie Lowe @ Sweetchilli - Techhouse just how its meant to be played!!
Hehe soz everyone for all these sets but there were just so many good ones (this is the number after i cut a few out of the list).... Cant wait till next year - i expect next year to well and truly surpass this year!! BRING IT ON!!!! :) |

Mark Dynamix is so underrated, his sets are unbelievable...pretty freaky he hasn't gotten world recognition yet.
His Peaktime Volume 1 CD was bloody awesome...the best selection of tunes ever. |

I really didn't go to any internationals this year (besides Armin's 4 hour set at Gas). I guess the reason is because i kind of like the small intimate parties. Therefore all of my favourite sets were from locals. Basically congrats go to all the locals i've heard this year: Spang, Muli, Cameron, Sample G, Liquid M, D & M.
Special mention must go to Scott Richardson though. I recorded his set from A night at Icebox and it was awesome. really driving and pumping. That was my favourite set for the year. I'll try and upload it so everyone can have a listen :) |

Word to Mark Dynamix here too. Of course ive only seen him at underage events, but he always plays a kick ass set, which actually gets people dancing without it being music, which is a skill in itself, when it comes to underage people like myself. . . . .
Hahahaha, funny moment, At sunset project once, i had spoken to him before at another about his Timberlake record, i just told him it was a kick ass set, and he was like "yeh i knew you guys would love the start, and sorry i couldnt play more of that stuff, but i had to play something the rest would love as well"
Rofl, i felt so elite :p :p I think he started with the Junkie XL mix of Fischerspooner - Emerge. like that! :d |
